The return to Spain against cancer of the Pelayo Vida Challenge ends at the Monte Real Yacht Club

This afternoon the Pelayo Life Challenge – Vuelta a España 2020 arrived at the Monte Real Club de Yates, a solidarity project that aims to give visibility to cancer in women and the importance of practicing sports as part of their recovery.

A crew made up of 5 women who have overcome breast cancer are the protagonists of this test of self-improvement, psychological strength, courage and optimism.

They want to send a message of hope to women who have suffered or are suffering from the disease, showing them that, after overcoming cancer, life can be resumed normally.

They also seek to raise awareness of the importance of investing in cancer research and the need to help all women who are currently in the same situation that they went through in their day.

The 5 expedition members of the Pelayo Life Challenge – Vuelta España 2020 are Marián, from Elche; Lorraine, from Cartagena; Fatima, from Jerez; Maria, from Barakaldo; and Nuria, from Teruel.

They left Bilbao days ago and will sail to Barcelona. After leaving the Bay of Biscay, they have several stages ahead of them in the Atlantic and once they have crossed the Strait, they will finish their journey in the Mediterranean, in Barcelona.

This afternoon, before continuing the route, the crew made a stop at the Monte Real Club de Yates, where they were received with a warm welcome by the staff of the Baionese club.

Javier de la Gándara made Okofen the first leader of the J80 class Autumn League this afternoon after winning the opening day held in the Bay of Baiona. The sailboat, skippered by the historic sailor and crewed by his usual team, finished first in all the events held and this plenary session placed them directly at the forefront of the one-design championship organized by the Monte Real Club de Yates.

The three tests with which the competition markers were released this Saturday were held in very good weather conditions, with sun, few waves and a north wind that started blowing at around 9 knots and rose to 16. They were all held in the same regatta field with the usual route of the Monte Real leagues, made up of four windward-leeward sections that added up to a total of 3.2 nautical miles.

In the first test of the day Okofen clearly dominated, from start to finish. It took first place followed by Ferralemes, skippered by Rosario García, who came second; and Santiago Estévez’s Spaco was the third to cross the finish line.

In the second test, which opened with an off-line and subsequent rectification by Maija, Okofen repeated victory, showing that they had started the autumn season with great force. In this test, Fernando Yáñez’s Cansino came out ready to fight, but despite the initial boost that allowed him to close the gap with Okofen, he was not able to overcome Gándara’s. He managed, yes, to finish second, and beat Juan Carlos Ameneiro’s Fuss, who finished third.

And in the third and last regatta of the day, in which the same weather conditions were maintained, there were no changes in the leadership either, although there was in the navigation and arrivals, which were much tighter than in the initial sleeves. Despite the fact that the track was more disputed, the Okofen was once again the winner, sentencing the opening day with a full of firsts. Second position went to Juan Carlos Ameneiro’s Alboroto and Fernando Yáñez’s Cansino came in third.

Thus, the maximum of three tests foreseen in the program have been completed, with Javier de la Gándara’s Okofen (3 points), Juan Carlos Ameneiro’s Alboroto (9 points) and Fernando Yáñez’s Cansino (10 points), located At the top of the classification, the regatta committee, led by Jano Martín, ended the opening day of the J80 Autumn League and summoned the participants for the second round, which will be held on Saturday, October 24 .

The contenders for the title of the 35th Prince of Asturias Trophy take their positions in Baiona

  • With the premiere of the Gadis ORC 5 and SH Robotics ORC Open categories, the Monte Real meeting today brought together a total of 70 boats in the bay of Baiona competing for the Príncipe de Asturias Trophy
  • Magical, Cachete, Deep Blue 2.0, Chispa Nejra, Albarellos, Okofen and Tutatis Gestilar are the leaders of the queen event of the Baion club after the second day of regattas
  • Once the day’s tests are finished, at 8:00 p.m. the prestigious Terras Gauda National Sailing Awards will be delivered
  • Tomorrow, Sunday, the third and last day of regattas with everything to be decided in the seven classes in contention

The Prince of Asturias Trophy is halfway through its thirty-fifth edition. With the premiere of the Gadis ORC 5 and SH Robotics ORC Open categories, today the Bay of Baiona brought together a total of 70 boats divided into seven classes and three regatta fields, successfully completing the testing program of its second day. In the absence of what happens tomorrow in the final day, Magical, Cachete, Deep Blue 2.0, Chispa Nejra, Albarellos, Okofen and Tutatis Gestilar are for now the provisional leaders of the event.

In the race course of the ORC divisions from 2 to 4 the wind did not make things easy for the Race Committee. The lack of wind caused a delay of an hour and a half in the water at the beginning of the day, although finally with about 11 knots from the north component the fleet was able to hear the honk for the first of the two windward-leeward tests that would be held in this second day of competition.

In the category Nacexa ORC 2 the general has been tightened to the maximum after the dispute of the third and fourth regatta, and the five-point tie with which the Magical and Yess Too teams finished yesterday in the lead was provisionally resolved today in favor of the first. With Julio Rodríguez at the helm, the Magical of the Real Club Náutico de Vigo continues to lead the general standings -now alone- with a second and a fifth scored this afternoon, while Rui Ramada’s Yess Too moves into fifth place just one podium point.

The second position is now for the Solventis of Malalo Bermúdez after adding a sixth and a third in his locker, positioning himself three points behind those of Ramada. From behind, a good day also for Aceites Abril de Luis and Jorge Pérez Canal, who with a partial victory and a fourth climb to third place on the provisional podium.

In total, only five points separate the top six finishers, so it will all depend on what happens tomorrow.

In Aceites Abril ORC 3 , Fran Edreira’s Cachete was once again the best in the regatta field. The boat from Club Marítimo La Penela added two more partial victories today and sits at the top of the general standings with a five-point advantage over José Luis Alonso’s Antelope – Kahaway, which also maintains its second position after two second places noted today.

Where there have been changes is in third place on the provisional podium, which is now occupied by Rui Amorín’s Milaneza after adding two third places.

For its part, in the Autesa ORC 4 division, the Deep Blue 2.0 of the Real Club Náutico de Vigo has not moved from first place today either. Vicente Cid’s team scored a second and a new partial victory, extending their lead by one point over Luis García Trigo’s Unus, who added their first win in the opening test of the day and a third in the second round. Luis Mª Pérez’s Balea Dous, meanwhile, also continues in third position in the provisional classification.

In the general classification of the Juan Sebastián Elcano Award, which encompasses the categories of ORC 2, 3 and 4 as a whole, today El Cachete stormed the lead ahead of Magical and Solventis, second and third respectively.

The Monte Real Club de Yates de Baiona unfurls the sails of the Prince of Asturias Trophy tomorrow, Friday, which is held from until Sunday in the waters of the Rías Baixas. The competition will put Galicia in the spotlight of the Spanish nautical scene for three days in a year marked by the suspension of multiple championships due to COVID19.

The sponsorship of ABANCA and the support of multiple firms and companies has allowed the club from Baiona to celebrate what will be the thirty-fifth edition of its star trophy, an edition in which 70 boats will participate, a limit set by Monte Real to be able to comply with health protocols and guarantee the safety of the participants.

The competition will start, if the wind allows it, tomorrow Friday at three in the afternoon, with the departure of the first test of the ORC 2-3-4 from a regatta field located near the Cíes Islands. If the program is fulfilled, half an hour later the first honk will sound for the J80 monotypes and the Gestilar Ladies Cup, which will compete inside the Bay of Baiona. The ORC 5, Open and Open Extra will remain only on land, pending their debut in the competition on Saturday.

Among the participants this year, many familiar faces from previous editions and some novelties. The Magical by Julio Rodriguez, a Swan 42 that won the Conde de Gondomar Trophy last July, will make its debut in the trophy. It will compete in the ORC 2 class with boats such as Solventis owned by Alberto Moro, or the Portuguese Xekmatt owned by Jose Carlos Prista and Yess Too owned by Rui Ramada, the latter winner of the last edition of the Prince in ORC 1. In ORC 2 there will also be crews such as those from the Aceites Abril of the Pérez Canal brothers, the Pairo 8 of Luis Bugallo, the Arroutado of José Manuel Pérez, the Eleko Mambo of Carlos Sampedro or the Lambaix of Antonio Ríos.

Ramón Ojea’s Bosch Service Solutions, who will fight to revalidate the victory achieved last year, will also enter the fray in the ORC 3 class. Jean Claude Sarrade’s Fend la Bise, bronze in the 2019 Principe, will be another contender for the ORC-3 title, a class in which we will also see Fran Edreira’s Cachete or Joao Tourigo’s Farofino.

And in ORC-4, which also starts the competition tomorrow, there will be boats such as La Burla Negra, by Juan José Martínez, Deep Blue 2.0 by Vicente Cid, Balea Dous by Luis Pérez or Unus by Luis García Trigo, among others.

The largest class in the competition will once again be the J80, in which a total of 18 crews will compete for victory, including Javier de la Gándara’s Okofen, winner in 2019; the Alboroto-Maui Jim by Juan Carlos Ameneiro or the Due by Pedro Pazos.
The ORC-5, ORC Open and Open Extra classes, with boats such as José Rey’s Chispa Nejra, Luis Suárez’s Maracaná I, Pablo Moro’s Habana or Bruno Gago’s Isla de Mouro, will not go out to compete until Saturday .

This thirty-fifth edition of the Prince of Asturias Trophy is sponsored by ABANCA and has the collaboration of firms such as Bodegas Terras Gauda (sponsor of the National Sailing Awards), Gestilar (sponsor of the Ladies Cup), Solitium, TuyPan, Coca Cola, Martin Miller, Gadis, Solventis, Volvo Autesa, Nacexa, HOLA, Paradores, Vanguard, April Oils, Foxy, Onda Cero, Helly Hansen, Tac Tic and SH Robotics. The competition also has the support of the Xunta de Galicia, the Provincial Council of Pontevedra, the council of Baiona and the Royal Spanish and Galician Sailing Federations.

Portugal, Mallorca, Ibiza, Castellón, the Basque Country and Madrid in the Gestilar Ladies Cup

The 35th Prince of Asturias Trophy will host, for yet another year on its programme, the Ladies Cup women’s competition, which this year is being held thanks to the sponsorship of the real estate developer Gestilar. In what will be the twenty-fourth edition of the regatta, crews from Portugal, Mallorca, Ibiza, Castellón, the Basque Country and Madrid will compete. They will do so, as has been the tradition, with crews of 6 sailors who will sail in the 6 Fígaros Beneteau owned by the Monte Real Club de Yates de Baiona.

The 420 women’s runner-up, Marta Ramada, will lead the Portuguese crew of the Gestilar Ladies Cup for another year. On this occasion, Ramada, who is looking for her third victory in the women’s competition of the Prince of Asturias Trophy, has managed to bring together in her team an outstanding cast of sailors who are currently preparing for the 2021 Olympics. Among them, the two-time snipe world champion, Mafalda Pires de Lima; the Portuguese 4X laser champion, Carolina Joao; and the Portuguese champion of 420, Joana Azevedo. They belong to different clubs in Portugal and will participate representing BBDouro.

The Olympians Sara Carmo and Susana Romero will be two of the crew members of another of the Ladies Cup teams, the one led by the women’s J80 world runner-up Nuria Sánchez, who will run through the Marina Burriananova (Castellón). They are joined by the Olympic Sara Carmo, who will carry the boat’s rod; the winner of the last Copa del Rey de Vela, Clara Llabrés; and the Galician Carmen Mateo and Victoria García, with several pre-Olympic campaigns behind them.

From the Basque Country, from the Real Club Náutico del Abra – Real Sporting Club, the team of Carmen Galdós, Euskadi champion of 420 and cruise, arrives in Baiona. Sailing alongside her, among others, will be the J80 junior world champion, Silvia Marcé; and the runner-up of Spain in J80 Leticia Gandarias. They are all from Getxo and despite having coincided in different classes, this will be the first time they are part of the same team.

Sailing through Puerto Pollensa (Majorca), the team led by Pilar Casares arrives at the Prince of Asturias Trophy. They are a group of sailors used to cruising who, after having won the 2019 edition of the Ladies Cup, will once again get on the Figaro Beneteau of the Monte Real Yacht Club to try to revalidate the title of winners.

From the Balearic Islands, the crew led by De Pedro, a regular in the Baionesa women’s regatta, in which this year will celebrate ten years of participation, also arrives in Galicia. It is made up of a group of vaurien athletes, recent runners-up in the Aguete Cruise Regatta, and they will compete representing the Ibiza Yacht Club.

The last of the six crews that will participate in this twenty-fourth edition of the Gestilar Ladies Cup is that of the Club Náutico Cervera, from Madrid, with Teresa Martínez and Laura Gil leading the team. They are one of the oldest crews when it comes to sailing in Baiona, where they have haggled for more than 20 years.

Galicia is already preparing for the celebration of the Prince of Asturias Trophy, one of the most important competitions in the Spanish nautical calendar, reduced this year as a result of COVID19. The Monte Real Club de Yates and the Naval Military School join forces once again in the organization of a trophy that in 2020 celebrates its thirty-fifth edition.

Its creation in 1986 thanks to the encouragement of Admiral Rafael Lorenzo Montero, who died a few months ago, was recalled by the president of the Baiona club, José Luis Álvarez, at the official presentation of the event held this morning in Baiona. The president of Monte Real had fond memories of the figure of the admiral, of whom he said that “possibly without him, and without his intermediation with the Royal House, the Prince of Asturias Trophy might not exist today.”

In his speech, José Luis Álvarez also wanted to highlight the effort made by the club this year to organize the trophy within the framework of COVID19. “It has been an extra effort -he said- that we believe will be worth it, because we hope that the Prince of Asturias Trophy will be one more step towards a normality in which many things will have changed, but others, such as our love of the sea and sailing, They will remain intact,” he said.

Like every September, the Rías Baixas will witness an event that every year brings together, for three days, an outstanding number of cruise and one-design crews from various parts of Spain and Portugal on the Galician coast. There will be, in total, three intense days of competition in which a maximum of 70 boats will participate, since this year, for the first time in the history of the trophy, a registration limit has been set due to COVID19.

The 35th Prince of Asturias Trophy will hold its tests on September 4, 5 and 6. On Friday the 4th, after a morning of registrations, revisions and measurements, the first two starting horns will be heard, at 3:00 p.m. for the fastest cruisers (ORC 0-1-2-3-4) and at 3:00 p.m.: 30 for monotypes (J80 and Figaros). The former will presumably take part in a coastal route and the J80 and the 36 girls from the Gestilar Ladies Cup, aboard the 6 Fígaros Beneteau owned by Monte Real, will enter the fray with several windward-leeward tasks.

On the second day, Saturday the 5th, the ORC 5, Open and Open Extra will also be at stake, for which the regatta committee will design a coastal layout. The rest of the boats will continue to score points in the ranking with several rounds to the wind, a design that will remain identical, weather permitting, until the end of the trophy.

The Sunday day of the 6th, the last of the tests, will be the one that decides the podiums and defines the final classification for the awards ceremony, which will be held that same afternoon, at 6:30 p.m. in the gardens of the Monte Real Club of yachts.

One of the trophies that will be in dispute this year will be the Juan Sebastián Elcano Trophy, a limited edition sculpture of the Spanish navigator made in bronze with which the Navy wants to commemorate the V Centenary of the first circumnavigation of the world.

The Commander-in-Chief of the Naval Military School, Captain Ignacio Cuartero, highlighted the importance of the Prince of Asturias Trophy for the Navy, not only because of his collaboration in organizing the competition from the beginning, but also because many of the students of the Naval School participate in the tests. “The Prince of Asturias Trophy reflects some of the values that we try to instill in our students, such as, for example, overcoming challenges, both sporting and personal. That is why it is so important for us to continue working hand in hand with Monte Real in the organization of this high-level competition”.

For the celebration of the tests, the organizing club has once again chosen several different regatta fields in which to divide the participants. The objective is to be able to give a complete nautical show in the Rías Baixas, one of the most spectacular areas of the Atlantic coast, with very favorable characteristics for sailboat navigation.

It was an aspect highlighted by the head of sports for the Pontevedra Provincial Council, Gorka Gómez, who also spoke of the importance of “the institutional collaboration, the collaboration of companies, the collaboration of sports clubs and, in short, the collaboration of everyone in promoting a trophy that is also an economy and the promotion of healthy habits and an example to follow” . “The regatta is going to be fantastic and I have no doubt that it will be a complete success,” he concluded.

With the registration process already underway, the Monte Real Club de Yates hopes to cover the limit of 70 boats set this year, a figure well below the number of participants in previous editions but which will guarantee that the competition takes place with maximum security. in relation to COVID19.

The club’s commodore, Ignacio Sánchez Otaegui, assures that the intention of Monte Real is “to maintain the high organizational and sporting level that has always characterized the Prince of Asturias Trophy throughout its history and to do so while complying with all the protocols of health security” .

In this sense, the director of Monte Real wanted to thank the support of ABANCA, the main sponsor of the event, for having once again maintained its commitment to the club and the Prince of Asturias Trophy. In this sense, the territorial director of the entity, Walter Álvarez, spoke of the competition as a “true reflection of what ABANCA is and of its commitment to sport and the sea, from grassroots sports to top competition” . said. Álvarez also pointed out the contribution that events of this type make to the local economy with “a significant economic return, much needed in these times.”

From Monte Real they also thanked the support of Bodegas Terras Gauda, promoter of the National Sailing Awards, which will be awarded, once again, within the framework of the competition. The gala that will distribute the prestigious awards will be held on the night of Saturday, September 5, and will be attended by the winners in the different categories.

In this edition, Jordi Xammar and Nico Rodríguez have been distinguished as the best Olympic team; world champion Pablo Santurde as patron of the year; the world champion boat from Alicante in ORC Corinthian Tanit IV Medilevel as best boat; the champions of Spain and Europe of 420 Conrad Konitzer and Fernando Rodríguez as the best youth team and the J70 Green Oils of Luis Pérez Canal as monotype of the year. The Mariano Aguado Communication Award has been won this year by the Mallorcan photographer Nico Martínez, for his more than 30 years of contribution to the dissemination and promotion of sailing through his photographs.

The president of Bodegas Terras Gauda, José María Fonseca Moretón, was very pleased to be able to celebrate, once again, and in the special circumstances of COVID19, the National Sailing Awards gala at Monte Real. “For us it is a pride to sponsor a sport that gathers, at the same time, sports knowledge, intelligence and a series of values that we at Terras Gauda deeply love,” he assured. “It is an honor that the awards continue to celebrate years and we hope and wish to be able to continue sponsoring this event for many more years,” he concluded.

The delivery of the National Sailing Awards at the Monte Real Yacht Club will once again put Baiona in the spotlight, something of which the mayor of the Galician fishing village was especially proud. In the presentation of the event, Carlos Gómez, wanted to thank everyone “for coming once again to the best town not only in Galicia but in the whole world. We have the environment, we have the time and we hope that this weekend sports activities can be carried out as normal” .

In addition to the councilor from Baiona, the official presentation held this morning at the Monte Real Club de Yates was also attended, on behalf of the regional government, by the provincial head of sports of the Xunta de Galicia, Daniel Benavides, who highlighted the value of the Trofeo Príncipe de Asturias in the current context. “We are here making history, resisting and giving the image that in Galicia the economy is being activated with sport, with the optimism and with the dream of those sailors who are going to participate to get the long-awaited title of the Prince of Asturias Trophy” he said .

The J70 Abril Verde, skippered by Luis Pérez Canal from Ourense, has been honored with the Terras Gauda National Sailing Award for the one-design of the year for its achievement of the Corinthian European Champion title in Lake Garda (Italy), in a championship in which 130 boats participated.

After having achieved bronze in the 2018 European Championship, the crew of the Abril Verde managed to improve their results last year and climb to the top of the podium in the amateur category, beating the 36 rivals in their division. Those of the Real Club Náutico de Vigo won the title they were after, also managing to finish eighth overall in the championship.

The crew was led by Luis Pérez Canal, from Ourense, one of the most relevant figures in sailing in Galicia today. His nautical curriculum highlights having been Galician Optimist champion, Spanish Laser runner-up and promoter of some of the most successful Galician regional sailing projects, such as the J70 Abril Verde itself (podium in 4 of the last 5 annual circuits of J70 in Spain, Corinthian Spanish Champion and Corinthian European Champion) and the Aceites Abril, a cruise ship that has won numerous victories in the most important regattas in Galicia, such as the Príncipe de Asturias Trophy, the Conde de Gondomar Trophy, the Repsol Trophy or the Rías Baixas Regatta, of which the winner has just recently been proclaimed.

Together with him, Carlos Sanmartín, Eduardo Reguera, Juan de Cominges and Luis Darocha completed the crew that won the European Championship. On September 5 they will collect the Terras Gauda National Sailing Award for the monotype of the year at a gala to be held in Baiona organized by the Monte Real Yacht Club.

Conrad Konitzer and Fernando Rodríguez will receive the National Sailing Award for the best youth team

The Balearic athletes from the Club Náutic S’Arenal de Mallorca Conrad Konitzer and Fernando Rodríguez have been distinguished with the Terras Gauda National Sailing Award for the best youth team of the year 2019.

The 19-year-old sailors culminated an exceptional season last year by proclaiming themselves champions of Spain and Europe in the 420 class, and also winning bronze in the world championship held in Vilamoura (Portugal).

They were the fruits of many months of training, gym and hours of water, a hard work that allowed them to achieve the goal they had set just a year before, in 2018, when they started sailing together and managed to qualify for the ISAF World Cup.

The skipper of the team, Conrad Konitzer, is a Canadian who has lived in Mallorca for years. The son of a sailor, he got on an Optimist for the first time at the age of 5 encouraged by his father, with whom he started sailing. After making the leap to the 420 and winning gold in the Spanish and European championships, he has just switched to the 49er, with which he is training for the Paris Olympics.

He agrees with his partner Fernando Rodríguez that he also started sailing encouraged by his father and that in recent months he has changed classes. Now he sails in 470 and his aspirations are to achieve the best possible level for 2024.

Before that, on September 5, both will collect the Terras Gauda National Sailing Award in Baiona, which recognizes them as the best youth team of the year, an award for which they were very grateful.

“We are very happy to have been awarded and we hope to be a good example for future generations” , they assured, while confirming that “they will continue to work very hard to achieve new goals in the world of sailing” .

The National Sailing Awards recognize the work of photographer Nico Martínez

The Majorcan photographer Nico Martínez will be honored on September 5 in Baiona with the Mariano Aguado Communication Award at the Terras Gauda National Sailing Awards for his contribution to the dissemination and promotion of nautical sport through his photographs.

This is the first time in the 28-year history of the prestigious awards that this award has gone to a photographer, since until now it had only been received by journalists, the media, websites, blogs, agencies and production companies.

About to turn 63, Nico Martínez has spent more than half his life behind a goal. He started as a nautical photographer in 1985 collaborating with Nautic Press, a magazine that covered regattas in Palma de Mallorca.

Barely 5 years later, he would come into contact with Yate magazine, with which he traveled through Spain and France; and shortly after he became a photographer for Navegar magazine, beginning to work for events such as the Copa del Rey or the Princesa Sofía Trophy.

But it was in 1995 when he began to be really recognized as a nautical photographer thanks to his work for the America’s Cup in San Diego as the official photographer of “Rioja España”. Thus, Martínez made his great professional leap and regatta organizations and teams began to raffle him off to cover the high-level circuit in Spain.

In the year 2000 he repeated it again with the Copa América, this time in New Zealand, sending daily photos of “Bravo España” to the EFE agency; and in 2007 he did the same with the “Desafío Español” in the Copa América in Valencia.

The international circuits of TP52 and RC44, the Barcelona World Race, the Copa del Rey, the Trofeo Princesa Sofía or classic sailing regattas are some of his numerous works recognized worldwide, many of them published in prestigious international magazines such as Yachting World , Seahorses or Yachts.

In 2016 he marked another milestone in his career by winning first prize at the Yacht Racing Forum Award.

That year, in addition to winning the world championship as skipper, he managed to win the Caribbean 600 (in Class40) and the J70 Spanish Open. He also managed to get on the podium of the Normandy Channel Race (in Class40), in which he came second; and in the J70 World Championship, with a third position.

With a degree in nautical and maritime transport, Santurde began sailing at a very young age with the help of his parents, who always had a boat. He took his first steps in dinghy sailing on the Optimist, 420 and 470, participating in the London 2012 Olympic campaign in the 470 class.

Little by little he evolved and Gonzalo Botín gave him the opportunity to jump on the big boats and the big regattas. He sailed in mini 650 and in Class40 (with which he was world champion twice and runner-up twice) and managed to win such important races as the Fastnet Race (in 2015), the Caribbean 600 up to 6 times, the Transat Quebec Saint Malo (in 2016), the Tour of England and Ireland (in 2018) or the Transat Jacques Vabre, in which he achieved two podiums (second with Alex Pella in 2013 and third with Phil Sharp in 2017).

Imocas, Fígaros, MOD70, Swan, J70, J80… few are the boats that can resist this Cantabrian lover of the sea and sailing, who was very pleased to have been recognized with the award for skipper of the year at the National Awards for Terras Gauda candle.

“It is an honor to receive an award like this and to see so many years of work and dedication recognized, even more so when in Spain we have such good sailors, many of them also deserving of this award ”, says Santurde, who also wanted to dedicate the award “To all the crews I have been a part of and to the colleagues from whom, without a doubt, I have learned so much” . The Cantabrian skipper also thanked the Monte Real Yacht Club for awarding the prize and its “tireless work to promote the practice of sailing and regattas in Spain over so many years” .
