· The next big event of the Monte Real Yacht Club will be on August 31, September 1 and 2 with the thirty-second edition of the Prince of Asturias Trophy

The 43rd Count of Gondomar – Banco Sabadell Trophy said goodbye to Baiona this Wednesday with a final day in which the intense fog that covered the surroundings of the Cíes Islands wanted to take away the limelight from the competition, forcing the start of the competition to be postponed for more than three hours. the tests and to modify the location of the regatta field to guarantee the safety of the participants.

In spite of everything, and although with quite a few difficulties, the regatta committee, led by Fernando Giraldo, was able to start one of the two tasks foreseen in the final program and the entire fleet was able to dispute a windward-leeward course that decided the final ranking.

The crews that had been in the lead from previous days did not disappoint and the classification, although with some surprises, hardly changed. The Aceites Abril of the Real Club Náutico de Vigo, led by the Ourenses Luis and Jorge Pérez Canal, won its fourth title and became part of the select group of boats with three or more Counts of Gondomar to its credit, such as the Ardora of Alfonso Paz Andrade and Julio Babé, the Castrosúa skippered by Willy Alonso, or José Luis Freire’s Pairo.

It was precisely Pairo VIII, who did not compete on the last day, that escaped one more year, at the hands of Aceites Abril, the competition’s grand prize, but the crew from Vigo, led by the young Luis Bugallo, and with several of the recent J70 Corinthian European Champions on board, he did not leave Baiona empty-handed. In the Carrumeiro Chico stage, Freire’s pupils, with former Copa América Laureano Wizner contributing his experience as a tactician, became the new Spanish Altitude Champions of the Galicia Zone.

The almost 100 miles between Baiona and the Corcubión estuary, turning the Carrumeiro Chico, was once again the star stage of the forty-third edition of the Conde de Gondomar, and won two of the competition’s great awards: the Spanish championship for height, which was won by the Pairo of the Real Club Náutico de Vigo; and that of the winner of the stage in real time, which went to the Yess of the Portuguese Rui Ramada. Wearing the Monte Real necklace, the Portuguese crew was the fastest to complete the test, taking 15 hours and 26 minutes to complete it. The mayor of Baiona, Ángel Rodal, was in charge of giving them the award at the closing of the event held in Baiona.

At the awards ceremony for the 43rd Count of Gondomar – Banco Sabadell Trophy, the Aceites Abril repeated its climb to the stage since, in addition to collecting the overall winner award, the Ourenses were the winners of the Storax ORC 1-2 class, which they led from the first test and they resolved with a first place in the last assault. Completing the class podium were Francisco Gude’s Siradella, from the Real Club Náutico de Portosín; and the Pairo VIII of Luis Bugallo, of the Real Club Náutico de Vigo.

In the PSA Retail ORC 3 class, the Salona 37 Oral Group Galimplant, owned by owner and helmsman Pedro Pazos, was the best, taking first prize to the Real Club Náutico de Sanxenxo. Emigdio Bedia’s Gorilón, from Real Club Marítimo de Santander, was second, three points behind the champion and three points ahead of Javier Montenegro’s Marara IV, which came third.

The Coca Cola ORC 4 class was the one that underwent the most variations throughout the championship, but there were 3 boats that stood out above the rest and finally took the winners’ podium. They were the Balea Dous from Rodeira, the Fend la Bise from Monte Real and La Burla Negra from Castrelo de Miño. They reached the final tied on points, and their dispute at the last pole was decisive for Jean Claude Sarrade, who led the Fend la Bise del Monte Real to the top of the podium. Balea Dous by Luis Pérez and La Burla Negra by Juan José Martínez took the second and third prizes respectively.

In the real-time competition of the J80 monotypes, grouped in the Martin Miller J80 class, the undisputed winner was Javier de la Gándara’s Okofen, in which the historic round-the-world racer and Diego Fernández alternated at the helm; completing the crew with Jaime de la Gándara and Jaime Barreiro. They signed three first places in the three contested races and revalidated the title that they had already achieved in the previous edition with forcefulness. The second and third position went to Virazón by Miguel Lago, and Namasté by Luis de Mira.

The Erizana was proclaimed champion in the Rías Baixas Fígaro class by the young Santiago Meygide who, at just 26 years old, led his team to the top of the podium. The sailboat closed the best card of the entire fleet, scoring three first places in the boxes of the three races held. The Monte Real figaro showed absolute dominance over his rivals, whom he gave no respite throughout the entire competition. Thus, Adrián Irago’s Bouvento and Gonzalo Baamonde’s Silleiro had to settle for second and third place.

Those in charge of delivering the prizes to the winners of the 43rd Count of Gondomar – Banco Sabadell Trophy were the deputy general manager of SabadellGallego, Pablo Junceda; the mayor of Baiona, Ángel Rodal; the Deputy Delegate for Tourism of the Pontevedra Provincial Council, Santos Héctor Rodríguez; the head of the provincial sports service of the Xunta de Galicia, Daniel Benavides; the president of the Royal Galician Sailing Federation, Manuel Villaverde; the managing director of Storax, Rui Ramada, the head of sales PSA Retail Vigo, Rafael Montes; and the president of the Monte Real Yacht Club, José Luis Álvarez.

After the farewell of the Count of Gondomar, the Baionese club is now preparing for its great event in the 2018 racing calendar, the Prince of Asturias Trophy, which this year will be held on August 31, September 1 and 2.

  • The Aceites Abril of the Pérez Canal brothers, leader of the ORC 1-2 class, will try to prevail over the Pairo VIII of Luis Bugallo and revalidate the victory achieved in 2017

  • In monotypes J80 and Fígaro, Javier de la Gándara’s Okofen and Santiago Meygide’s Erizana are the ones with the best results so far

The forty-third edition of the Conde de Gondomar Trophy, organized by the Monte Real Yacht Club with the sponsorship of Banco Sabadell, enters its final stretch this Wednesday, a Santiago holiday, with the celebration of the last two tests.

The excitement is guaranteed on the water with a maximum dispute for the podiums, since the sailboats that are in the lead in several of the categories are separated from each other by the minimum or even tied on points.

If everything goes according to plan and the weather permits, the regatta committee will honk the start of the final day at twelve noon at the Cíes Islands anchorage, where the entire fleet will face each other in two windward-leeward courses .

In the Storax ORC 1-2 class, the Pérez Canal brothers’ Aceites Abril , which is in the lead after the first race, will try to maintain the lead and prevent Luis Bugallo’s Pairo VIII from taking it away. Ourenses arrive confidently in the final after having won the two previous editions of the Conde de Gondomar, but José Luis Freire’s team will not make it easy for them. Nor should we lose sight of Francisco Gude’s Siradella in this category.

The Oral Group Galimplant of Sanxenxo, armed, led and skippered by Pedro Pazos, will fight for the laurels of the PSA Retail ORC 3 class, which competes with boats such as the Gorilón de Emigdio Bedia, of the Real Club Marítimo de Santander, among others.

The Coca Cola ORC 4 class is where the competition is tighter, with the top three boats tied on points. Are the Balea Dous by Luis Pérez, from the Real Club Náutico de Rodeira, winner of the previous edition of the Conde; the Fend la Bise del Monte Royal Yacht Club, skippered by Jean Claude Sarrade; and La Burla Negra of the Castrelo de Miño Yacht Club, with Juan José Martínez at the controls.

In the J80 one-design competition, in the Martin Miller class, Javier de la Gándara’s Okofen would have to do very badly not to win the grand prize of the trophy. The first two places signed in the initial tests allowed him to separate 7 points from the second and third classified, which are Javier Martínez’s Cunichán and Miguel Lago’s Virazón . We found the same situation in the Rías Baixas Fígaro class, where Santiago Meygide ‘s Erizana skirted the coastal ones on the first and second days and is comfortably leading.

The last two tests of the 43rd Count of Gondomar – Banco Sabadell Trophy will begin tomorrow, Wednesday at noon and in the afternoon, at five, the awards ceremony will be held at the Monte Real Club de Yates, with the assistance, among other authorities, of the deputy director General of Sabadell-Gallego, Pablo Junceda; the mayor of Baiona, Ángel Rodal; the deputy delegate for tourism of the Pontevedra Provincial Council, Santos Héctor Rodríguez; the head of the provincial sports service of the Xunta de Galicia, Daniel Benavides; the president of the Royal Galician Sailing Federation, Manuel Villaverde; the managing director of Storax, Rui Ramada, the manager of PSA Retail Vigo, Daniel Martín; and the president of the Monte Real Yacht Club, José Luis Álvarez.

The Pairo VIII is crowned the new champion of Spain of height in the Count of Gondomar

  • The crew of the Real Club Náutico de Vigo, led by the young Luis Bugallo, won the Spanish high-altitude championship in the Galicia area in the Carrumeiro Chico stage
  • Javier de la Gándara’s Okofen strengthened its climb to the podium of the J80 class after chaining a new victory on the second day of the trophy held today
  • In the ORC 4 class, the cangueses of the Balea Dous managed to rise from third to first position and in the Figaro class, the Erizana of Santiago Meygide repeated the victory
  • The 43rd Count of Gondomar – Banco Sabadell Trophy concludes on July 25 with the last two tests of the competition and the awards ceremony for the winners

The Pair VIII of the Real Club Náutico de Vigo was crowned the new Spanish Altitude Champion of the Galicia area in the Conde de Gondomar Trophy, which is being held these days in the Galician estuaries under the organization of the Monte Real Yacht Club and sponsored by Banco Sabadell .

The sailboat, armed by José Luis Freire, captained by Luis Bugallo and with former Copa América Laureano Wizner as tactician, won the title after completing the Carrumeiro Chico stage, almost 100 round-trip miles between Baiona and the estuary from Corcubión, in 15 hours and 47 minutes.

The people from Vigo won the title despite not being the fastest to finish the race, since Rui Ramada’s Yess , from Monte Real Club de Yates, was the first to cross the finish line. He did it 20 minutes before the Pairo and 10 minutes before the April oils of the brothers Luis and Jorge Pérez Canal, who after the compensation of times was placed at the head of the Storax ORC 1-2 class and at the top of the general classification of the trophy.

In class ORC 1-2, behind the April Oils and the Pairo VIII , both from the Real Club Náutico de Vigo, placed the Siradella of the Real Club Náutico de Portosín, skippered by Francisco Gude; and in the PSA Retail ORC 3 class, the provisional podium positions are occupied by Oral Group Galimplant by Pedro Pazos (Royal Club Náutico de Sanxenxo), the Gorilón by Emigdio Bedia (Real Club Marítimo de Santander) and the Marara 4 by Javier Montenegro (Club Marítimo Rías Baixas).

After arriving in Baiona at dawn and resting on Sunday, the big ships will return to the water next Wednesday to compete in the last two tests of the Count of Gondomar at the Cíes anchorage, two windward-leeward batons in which the sailboats will also participate class ORC 4 and monotypes J80 and Figaro.

The latter took to the water today to complete their second round of the championship, a 24-mile coastal race that took them from the interior of the Bay of Baiona to the Subrido beacon, in the vicinity of Cabo Home, where they turned to return back to Baiona passing through Bondaña, in the Toralla area.

The test took place with a northwest wind of between 8 and 10 knots that seemed like it was not going to give the fleet any problems, but right at the end, when the sailboats were already close to the finish line, those sailing at the head of the fleet fell in a pit that stagnated them and allowed those who came behind to reach them and even surpass them.

One of the boats that suffered the most from the whims of the wind was Luis García Trigo’s Unus, which after signing a spectacular regatta taking the entire fleet to its stern, was relegated to the last position of the Coca Cola ORC class table. Four.

In this same category, the Balea Dous de Rodeira, led by Luis Pérez, managed to rise from third to first position, dropping the Fend la Bise by Jean Claude Sarrade (Monte Royal Yacht Club) and La Burla Negra by Juan José Martínez (Club Náutico Castrelo de Miño) to second and third place respectively.

In the Martin Miller J80 class, Okofen del Monte Real Club de Yates, which today reinstated Javier Gándara as skipper, consolidated its climb to the podium after chaining another victory. Also outstanding was the performance of Javier Martínez’s Cunichán , who came seventh on the first day and, after a great regatta, pocketed the provisional silver. Third place is occupied by Miguel Lago’s Virazón .

In the battle waged by the Figaros in the Rías Baixas class, Santiago Meygide’s Erizana once again stood out, chaining two first places in the two races held to date. In second and third position are Gonzalo Baamonde’s Silleiro and Adrián Irago’s Bouvento .

The Count of Gondomar – Banco Sabadell Trophy will bid farewell to its forty-third edition next Wednesday, July 25, the Santiago Apóstol holiday, starting at noon at the Cíes Islands anchorage, with a final menu made up of two sleeves for all classes .

Fend la Bise, Okofen and Hedgehog head towards the podium of the Count of Gondomar

· Three crews from the Monte Real Club de Yates take the lead after the first day of the 43rd Conde de Gondomar – Banco Sabadell Trophy held this Saturday

Jean Claude Sarrade’s Fend la Bise took first place in the Coca Cola ORC 4 class, beating La Burla Negra and Balea Dous who are second and third

· In the Martin Miller J80 and Rías Baixas Fígaro classes that competed in real time, the Okofen skippered by Diego Martínez and the Erizana de Santiago Meygide prevailed

· Of the boats that compete in the stage of the Carrumeiro Chico and the Spanish Championship of Height of the Galicia Zone, the Yess, the Aceites Abril and the Pairo VIII are in the lead.

The contenders for the throne of the 43rd Count of Gondomar – Banco Sabadell Trophy began heading towards the podium this Saturday on the first day of competition, which was held in the Galician estuaries with the fleet divided into two sections and a different layout for each of them. they.

The largest boats, of the Storax ORC 1-2 and PSA Retail ORC 3 classes, with the star stage of the Carrumeiro Chico on their menu of the day, had to deal with a wind that seemed to be the protagonist of the day. It forced them to delay their departure for half an hour, slowed down their navigation in the Carallones area and even left them stuck in the vicinity of the Cíes.

The boats that a priori started as favourites, the Aceites Abril of the Pérez Canal brothers and the Pairo VIII, owned by José Luis Freire and skippered by Luis Bugallo, fulfilled expectations and were placed at the head of the fleet from minute one. Both opted for the route further to the west, around the outside of the Cíes Islands, and little by little the rest of the sailboats joined them.

It was precisely this choice that made navigation difficult for them, since they found themselves with less intensity of wind than the small boats, which opted for the interior of Cíes to go up to Camouco (Ons) and were able to complete the test, of about 30 miles away, quite agile.

In the Coca Cola ORC 4 class, the winner of the day was Jean Claude Sarrade’s Fend la Bise, from the Monte Real Club de Yates. He took just over 5 hours to finish the route and placed first in the provisional classification. They are followed, in second and third place, by La Burla Negra of the Castrelo do Miño Yacht Club, captained by Juan José Martínez; and the cangueses of Balea Dous, with Luis Pérez at the helm.

In the Martin Miller J80 class, competing in real time, the Okofen did not suffer the absence of Javier de la Gándara, their usual skipper, and with Diego Fernández at the controls they managed to be the fastest of the day. He won, yes, by a narrow margin, since just a few seconds after him another of the favorites crossed the finish line to win the title, Virazón de Miguel Lago, also from Monte Real Club de Yates. The third provisional position was left by the Cansino of the commodore of Monte Real, Fernando Yáñez.

In real time, this inaugural stage of the Conde de Gondomar was also played by the Fígaros of the Rías Baixas class, in which he won, wearing a pendant from the organizing club, the Erizana de Santiago Meygide. Adrián Irago’s Bouvento and Gonzalo Baamonde’s Silleiro are second and third respectively.

The first day of the 43rd Count of Gondomar – Banco Sabadell Trophy ended for the small boats (ORC 4, J80 and Fígaros) with a seafood dinner and gin and tonic tasting at the Monte Real Yacht Club facilities. The competition of the big ones (ORC 1, 2 and 3) is still going on and is not scheduled to end until well into the morning or even after the day has dawned.

At this time, the Yess del Monte Real Club de Yates is still in the lead, with the Portuguese Rui Ramada at the wheel, who was also the first boat to tack the Carrumeiro Chico; the April Oils of the brothers Luis and Jorge Pérez Canal, of the Real Club Náutico de Vigo; and Pairo VIII led by Luis Bugallo and Laureano Wizner.

The 43rd Count of Gondomar – Banco Sabadell Trophy will continue tomorrow, Sunday, starting at noon with the second test for the Coca Cola ORC 4, Martin Miller J80 and Rías Baixas Fígaro classes. The Storax ORC 1-2 and PSA Retail ORC 3 classes rest and return to competition on Wednesday, July 25, when the regatta committee will gather the entire fleet at the Cíes Islands anchorage for the two last tests of the trophy, two windward-leeward routes that will sentence the forty-third edition of the historic competition of the Monte Real Club de Yates.

The sailboats that were winners in the previous edition of the Conde de Gondomar Trophy will try to repeat their victory in the forty-third edition of the competition, which will be held from tomorrow Saturday in Galicia under the organization of the Monte Real Club de Yates and the sponsorship of Sabadell Bank.

The Aceites Abril of the Real Club Náutico de Vigo, led by the brothers Luis and Jorge Pérez Canal, absolute winner last year, will go out on the water with the aim of signing their fourth victory after those achieved in 2013, 2016 and 2017. One more year, the people of Ourense start among the favorites and will undoubtedly be among the first to complete the star stage of the competition, the almost 100 miles to Carrumeiro Chico, which last year finished in 15 hours and 15 minutes.

Just five minutes after April crossed the finish line with his teammate from the Vigo nautical team and one of his most direct rivals, the Pairo VIII , who in 2018 will fight for the Count of Gondomar with a crew of young promises, among which are the recent J70 European champions Luis Bugallo, who will repeat as skipper, Gerardo Prego and Alberto Basadre. They will be accompanied on board by former Copa America native from Malaga, Laureano Wizner.

Both will meet again this Saturday in the Carrumeiro Chico test, from which the new Champion of Spain of Height of the Galicia Zone will emerge. The regatta will start at eleven o’clock in the morning from the bay of Baiona with a wind forecast that will start blowing from the northwest with up to 15 knots and that will shift to the north and decrease in intensity towards night.

The fastest boats could reach the Carrumeiro in about six or seven hours, depending on the wind and sea conditions, and finish the race about five hours later. The rest of the fleet is expected to return to Baiona well into the night or even early on Sunday.

In the rest of the classes, Unus by Luis García Trigo, from Monte Real; and the Balea Dous by Luis Pérez, from the Royal Yacht Club of Rodeira; will try to repeat victory in their respective classes, like the Javier de la Gándara’s Okofen , who will fight to remain the first of the J80 monotypes.

Among the thirty participating boats will also be, led by Francisco Gude, the Siradella , from the Real Club Náutico de Portosín, current Champion of Spain of Height of the Galicia Zone. Other participating boats are Oral Group Galimplant by Pedro Pazos (Real Club Náutico de Sanxenxo), recent winner of the Ramiro Carregal Trophy; the Fend la Bise by Jean Claude Sarrade, from the Monte Real Club de Yates; the Gran Fisgón by Manuel López, from the Real Club Náutico de Palma; La Burla Negra , by Juan José Martínez, from the Náutico Castrelo de Miño; the Yess by Rui Ramada, from the Monte Real Yacht Club; the Gorilón by Emigdio Bedia, from the Real Club Marítimo de Santander; or the Marara IV by Javier Montenegro, from the Rías Baixas Maritime Club.

The forty-third edition of the Count of Gondomar, to be decided in three days starting tomorrow, Saturday, promises action and excitement on the water. For land, moments of relaxation are reserved, with seafood dinners and gin and tonic tastings in Baiona. On the holiday of July 25, once the winners’ podium has been defined with the Cíes walking sticks, the prizes will be awarded to the winners.

The double Olympic sailing champion, Theresa Zabell, visited the students of the Monte Real Club de Yates Sailing School this morning in Baiona, to convey her passion for the sea and some lessons on the care and protection of the environment.

The athlete, one of the most successful sailors in Spain, has chaired the Ecomar Foundation for years, created with the aim of educating the youngest in sustainable practices through sport, with special emphasis on the care and protection of the sea.

This morning in Baiona, Zabell reminded the little ones of the importance of recognizing the different types of waste that exist in order to recycle them correctly, of protecting the coastline from the rubbish that comes from the sea, and of keeping the beaches clean from the waste that man himself generated, such as cans, plastics, butts or glass.

Some lessons that were not new for the students of the Monte Real Sailing School, who for years have participated in several of the educational initiatives promoted by the Ecomar Foundation, such as the Logbook, the collection and recycling of batteries or the conferences beach cleaning.

In this sense, Zabell congratulated the Baionese club for its commitment to the environment and encouraged students and directors to continue promoting measures to make society aware of the need to take care of the sea.

The Monte Real Club de Yates has just received the approval of a grant that it had requested to promote the Camino de Santiago within the framework of the Xacobea Nautical Crossing, a project of the Xunta de Galicia and the Association of Nautical Clubs of Galicia (ASNAUGA) that seeks to promote the pilgrimage to Compostela by sea.

The budget allocated by the Consellería do Mar through the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (FEMP) and the Local Action Groups of the Fisheries Sector (GALP) will allow the historic club to improve its facilities to receive pilgrims who want to start the route from Bayonne.

“The Monte Real Club de Yates as a port of departure” is the official name with which the entity requested, last March, the help of the local, regional and European administrations, in order to be able to co-finance the actions planned in the club.

The works will begin as soon as possible and for its execution, Monte Real plans to contract, whenever possible and the business fabric of the area allows it, local companies and suppliers, which will have a very positive impact on the economic revitalization of the region of Valmiñor.

Among the actions scheduled are the construction of a terrace and an accessible ramp, the renovation of the sanitary facilities to adapt them to responsible consumption and energy saving protocols, and the application of discounts on club fees to all those who come to its facilities for carrying out the Xacobea Nautical Crossing .

According to the initial calculations of the club, the new activities and the reception of pilgrims will imply an increase in the club’s turnover of more than 3 percent in the first year.

Countdown to the Count of Gondomar

Held uninterruptedly since 1976, it is the deep-sea regatta par excellence in Galicia and one of the longest-running on the Spanish nautical scene.

· The 43rd Count of Gondomar returns to Baiona starting this weekend and for three days at the hands of the Monte Real Club de Yates and Banco Sabadell

· The program of the competition will include the mythical ascent to the Carrumeiro Chico of almost 100 miles, which will once again be the Spanish Height Championship

The countdown begins for the celebration of the forty-third edition of the Conde de Gondomar Trophy, which returns to Baiona for another year thanks to the Monte Real Yacht Club and Banco Sabadell.

The facilities of the Baiona club hosted this noon the presentation of what is considered by many to be the quintessential deep-sea regatta in Galicia and which is also one of the longest-running in the Spanish nautical scene, since it has been held without interruption since 1976.

Forty-three years after that first edition, the Count of Gondomar keeps its essence alive and hardly introduces changes in a program that has always guaranteed great success, both in terms of participation and entertainment.

There will be three days of championship, between July 21 and 25, in which the most outstanding sailing crews in Galicia will attend. In addition to the ORCs, divided into classes by competitive ability, we will once again see the J80 and Fígaros monotypes vying for the podium in real time.

The sports program varies depending on the classes, but all will combine cross-country events on the one hand, and more technical routes, from windward to leeward, on the other. The objective of this mixed program is that skippers and sailors can demonstrate their worth both in experience and expertise as well as in strategy and tactics.

As tradition marks, the ascent to Carrumeiro Chico, from the Bay of Baiona to the Corcubión estuary, will mark the beginning of the Count of Gondomar. A route close to 100 miles that is again, one more year, the Spanish Height Championship of the Galicia Zone. It will be played on Saturday 21 from 11 in the morning.

At the same time, a shorter distance race, reserved for smaller boats, will also start from the Bay of Baiona. In this case, the turning point to return to Baiona will be at the Camouco lighthouse, in the Ons island area.

The menu for Sunday, July 22, will be a cross-country regatta of about 20 miles in which only the ORC’s 4 and Open, J80s and Fígaros will participate, while the Carrumeiro crews, who will have finished the race at dawn, will be able to rest.

And for the last day, the July 25 holiday, the regatta committee has prepared two windward-leeward courses at the Cíes Islands anchorage. Starting at 12 noon, the adrenaline of the sticks will begin to put an end to a competition that will crown its winners that same afternoon, at five.

“Galicia, one of the best settings for sailing in Spain”

Authorities, sponsors, press and guests witnessed this morning the start of the 43rd Count of Gondomar – Banco Sabadell Trophy in its official presentation, held at the Monte Real Club de Yates. At the event, the president of the club, José Luis Álvarez, recalled the beginnings of a competition that was born in 1976 with the aim of becoming a reference event for deep-sea sailing in the Atlantic.

“43 years ago -said Álvarez- we gathered in Baiona the best crews of the time and this year we will do the same again without having changed hardly anything from the initial approach, which continues to be to make the sailors enjoy sailing in Galicia, one of the best settings for sailing in Spain”.

The Director of Collectives of Banco Sabadell, Manuel Prol, also influenced this idea, speaking of the Count of Gondomar as an event that “although it is eminently sporting, it transcends that area, becoming a social event” . “When we began our voyage with Monte Real, many years ago, -continued Prol – we did it with a vocation for permanence, as we like relationships with clients to be. We believe in projects that provide added value to the environment in which they are developed and this event is, without a doubt, an example of this”.

The General Secretary for Sport of the Xunta de Galicia, Marta Míguez, was in charge of closing the official presentation of the Count of Gondomar, with a speech in which she highlighted the long history of the competition, one of the longest in Spain. A fact, he said, that highlights the importance that sailing has in Galicia.

The mayor of Baiona, Ángel Rodal, the vice president of the Monte Real Yacht Club, Alejandro Retolaza, also participated in the official presentation of the event; and the manager of PSA Retail Vigo, Daniel Martín.

The 2018 Conde de Gondomar Trophy is organized by the Monte Real Yacht Club with the sponsorship of Banco Sabadell and the support of the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation and the Royal Galician Sailing Federation. PSA Retail Vigo, Ramada Storax, Martin Miller’s Gin and Coca Cola are the main collaborators.

  • During her stay in our community, Sarah Treseder traveled to Baiona to see first-hand the activities of the Monte Real Yacht Club.
  • During his visit, the possibility of opening new markets for cruise passengers that could have a positive impact on the economy of the area was discussed

The president of the Royal Yacht Association (RYA), Sarah Treseder, visited the Monte Real Club de Yates de Baiona on Tuesday as part of the trip she is currently making through Galicia to explore ways of collaborating with different Galician marinas.

The head of the entity of British origin, which has 150,000 members in almost 60 countries around the world, discussed with the representatives of the Baiona club the possibility of opening new markets for cruise passengers that could have a positive impact on the economy of the area.

Specifically, Treseder raised the possibility of exchanging sailors with the ports of the different countries associated with the RYA, as well as opening new markets for cruise passengers and mega yachts in the facilities that allow it.

His stay in Galicia arose as a result of the contact made with the president of Portos de Galicia, José Juan Durán, during the celebration of the London Boat Show nautical fair last January. In addition to the president of the Galician public body, Treseder was accompanied on his visit to Monte Real by the club’s manager, Óscar Calero, and the mayor of Baiona, Ángel Rodal.
