SUMMER ACTIVITIES 2017

During the summer of 2017, the Monte Real Yacht Club offers a wide range of activities through its ABANCA Sailing School to enjoy the sea in the bay of Baiona during the months of July and August.

For the youngest members of the household, aged between 7 and 16, the Baionese club organizes Light sailing courses , so that children can have a first contact with sailing or improve their technique with different types of boats if they already know how to sail.

Although they are essentially practical classes, to learn how to carry out maneuvers and make decisions at sea, they also include theoretical explanations, to become familiar with nautical nomenclature, the parts of the boat and its operation, and the basic concepts of sailing.

For those over 16 years of age, Monte Real offers Cruise Sailing Courses , also with the option to choose a morning or afternoon schedule. Always accompanied by a coach from the club, with these courses the students learn to sail in the calm waters of the bay of Baiona and end up going out to the open sea to perfect their knowledge on board the sailboat.

Getaways to the Cíes Islands and sunsets on a sailboat are other proposals of the Monte Real Yacht Club for all those who, rather than learn to sail, prefer to enjoy the sun and the sea touring different points of the Galician coast.

In the case of the Getaways to the Cíes Islands , a skipper from Monte Real will take families or groups of friends by sailboat to the archipelago, where they can get off at one of the islands, stay on board the boat anchored nearby, or circumnavigate the area. They are all-day outings with which to discover one of the most magical places in Galicia in a different way.

In July and August, all those who wish can also enjoy the sunset sailing through the Bay of Baiona, with the Monte Real Sunsets on a sailboat . It is an activity that takes place from 8 in the afternoon until 11 at night, with departure and arrival from the yacht club facilities.

To carry out any of these activities or courses it is necessary to reserve a place in advance, by calling 986 385 000 or 625 261 586; or writing an email to escuela@mrcyb.com .

Jorge Enríquez, Guillermo Núñez and Adriana Pérez Canal win the Baitra Trophy

· The team made up of Jorge Enríquez and Guillermo Núñez, from the Real Club Náutico de Vigo, took victory in the 420 class after achieving two first places in the two races held this weekend in Baiona

· The 12-year-old sailor from the Club Marítimo de Canido, Adriana Pérez Canal, was the best in her category and, after signing a first and a second in the regattas, won the overall Optimist

· The three athletes received their awards from Juan Carlos González, manager of Baitra Accesorios Navales, a company that has sponsored the children’s sailing competition of the Monte Real Yacht Club for years

The athletes from the Real Club Náutico de Vigo, Jorge Enríquez and Guillermo Núñez, 16 years old, finally won the Baitra Children’s Sailing Trophy, played this weekend in Baiona.

The competition, organized by the Monte Real Club de Yates with the sponsorship of Baitra Accesorios Navales, had its second and last day of tests scheduled for this Sunday, but the absence of wind in the bay of Baiona forced the regatta committee to suspend the sleeves planned.

After more than two hours of waiting in the water, the sailboats returned to land and the scores of the two regattas held on the opening day of Saturday served to design the final general classification of the championship.

In the 420 class, the Real Club Náutico de Vigo placed two of its crews at the top of the podium. In sub-19, Carlota Hernández and Ana Carrasco took the gold; and Jorge Enríquez and Guillermo Núñez, in addition to winning in the sub-17 category, were winners of the general classification of the class. With very fast departures and taking certain risks in navigation tactics, these two 15-year-old athletes continue to advance steadily in the 420 class, in which they have not been sailing for even a year.

The second and third places were shared by athletes from the Vigo yacht club and the Baiona yacht club. In sub-17 silver and bronze went, respectively, to the teams formed by Alejandro Pérez Canal and Enrique Lagos, from the Real Club Nautico de Vigo; and Rosalía Martínez and Sandra Trigo, from Monte Real. In sub-19, Elena Molares and Enma Arana occupied the second and third position; and Yago González and Jorge González, all wearing the organizing club’s pendant.

In the Optimist competition, Adriana Pérez Canal, from the Club Marítimo de Canido, was the real star of the trophy. This little great sailor, the daughter of an old acquaintance of sailing in Galicia such as Luis Pérez Canal, owner and skipper of the Aceites Abril, stood on the podium up to three times. She received gold in her category (Optimist A), the award for the best female Optimist sailor and the award for overall winner of the class.

The Real Club Náutico de Vigo, the Monte Real Club de Yates and the Portuguese club We Do Sailing, from Vila Nova de Gaia shared the rest of the distinctions. In Optimist A, in addition to Adriana Pérez Canal, the winners were Paula da Rocha and Diogo Lima; in Optimist B, the podium was made up of Liang Jane García, Rita Pinto and Helena Pérez Canal; and in Optimist C, Tiago Vecino, Pablo Marquina and Inés Ameneiro took gold, silver and bronze respectively.

With this new edition of the Baitra Trophy, the Monte Real Club de Yates and Baitra Accesorios Navales reaffirmed their commitment to children’s sailing, which they have been supporting jointly for several years now. The next event on the sports calendar of the Baion club is the Galician Solitaire and Two-Handed Championship – III Rafael Olmedo Memorial, which will be held on June 3.

Vigo and Canido fight for the Baitra Trophy podium

· Sailors from the Real Club Náutico de Vigo and the Club Marítimo de Canido lead the children’s sailing competition after the first day of tests held this afternoon in the Bay of Baiona

· In the 420 competition, the teams led by Jorge Enríquez and Guillermo Núñez (Under 16) and Carlota Hernández and Ana Carrasco (Under 19), both from the Vigo yacht club, are in the lead.

· In the Optimist class, the provisional podiums of the different categories are held by Adriana Pérez Canal and Liang Jane García, from the Canido Maritime Club; and Tiago Vecino, from the Real Club Náutico Vigo

The yacht clubs of Vigo and Canido are fighting to win the podium of the Baitra Trophy, which is being held this weekend in Baiona under the organization of the Monte Real Club de Yates and sponsored by Baitra Accesorios Navales.

The children’s sailing competition held its opening day this afternoon in the bay of Baiona under a beautiful spring sun, but with a wind that made it quite difficult for the young sailors to navigate. The forecasts indicated that it would blow with some intensity, but after the celebration of the first two regattas it began to fall and prevented the completion of the other two tasks that the committee had planned for this Saturday.

In spite of everything, the two tests held today made it possible to define a provisional podium in which the clubs from Vigo have, for the time being, the leading role. In the 420 competition, the team formed by Jorge Enríquez and Guillermo Núñez, from the Real Club Náutico de Vigo, stands out above the entire fleet. With 15 years of age and less than a year of experience sailing in this type of boat, Jorge and Guillermo achieved two first places this afternoon and lead the classification of Sub 16 and the general classification of the class. In Sub 19, another team from the Vigo nautical team is in the lead, formed by Carlota Hernández and Ana Carrasco.

In the Optimist competition, the provisional podiums of the different categories are held by Adriana Pérez Canal and Liang Jane García, aged 12 and 11, from the Club Marítimo de Canido; and little Tiago Vecino, 10 years old, from the Real Club Náutico de Vigo.

After the initial tests this afternoon, the competition enters its final stretch tomorrow with the last rounds of the trophy, which will be held at half past eleven in the morning at a regatta field that will once again be located inside the Bay of Bayonne. The committee’s forecast is to start four heats for the 420 teams and three for the Optimists.

In the afternoon, once the activity in the water is over, the awards ceremony will be held for the winners, who will receive their awards and financial prizes from various managers of Monte Real, as the host club, and Baitra, as the sponsoring company. of the event. The appointment with the winners’ podium is at half past four in the gardens of the Baionese club.

Fifty boats compete for the Baitra Trophy starting tomorrow in Baiona

Young sailing promises in Galicia will compete throughout the weekend in the children’s sailing trophy organized by the Monte Real Yacht Club

· The sailors arriving from different yacht clubs in Galicia and Portugal must complete several technical courses in the waters of the Bay of Baiona

At two-thirty in the afternoon this Saturday, the starting top of the first of the Baitra Children’s Sailing Trophy regattas will resound in the Bay of Baiona, a competition organized by the Monte Real Yacht Club that will bring together promising young sailing from different clubs in Galicia and Portugal.

During the two days of the weekend, more than fifty boats of the Optimist and 420 classes will compete in a maximum of six races with a weather forecast that is announced to be quite good for navigation, with a pleasant temperature and winds from the north of between 9 and 12 knots of intensity.

After the initial phase on Saturday, in which the regatta committee hopes to start a minimum of three races, the sailors will face the last and decisive races of the championship on Sunday, which will determine the configuration of the winners’ podium.

Once the competition in the water is over, the Baitra Trophy will move to the mainland to host, at the facilities of the Monte Real Club de Yates, the awards ceremony for the winners. Some 60 athletes under the age of 20 will meet this weekend in the Bay of Baiona in a competition that seeks to promote children’s sailing in Galicia

· The trophy is once again organized by the Monte Real Yacht Club with the sponsorship of the Baitra Naval Accessories company from Baitra

· The tests in which Optimist and 420 athletes will compete will be held on Saturday from half past two and on Sunday from half past eleven

Baiona, May 16, 2017.- Next weekend one of the most important annual events with basic sailing in Galicia returns to Baiona, the Baitra Children’s Sailing Trophy, organized once again by Monte Real Yacht Club with the sponsorship of the Baitra Naval Accessories company. .

In this new edition of the competition, some sixty young sailors will represent the main yacht clubs in Galicia, such as the Real Club Náutico de Vigo, the Real Club Náutico de Sanxenxo, the Club Marítimo de Canido, the Real Club Náutico Rodeira (Cangas) or the Monte Real Club de Yates, as the host club.

River sailing will also be present thanks to the As Pontes Sailing Club; and the Portuguese flag will fly on the boats of the students of the BBDouro Sailing School – We Do Sailing, who will arrive in Baiona from Vila Nova de Gaia.

The regattas, organized for classes A, B and C of Optimist and the categories Under 17 and Under 19 of 420, will be held over two days, on Saturday 20 from half past two in the afternoon and on Sunday 21 from half past eleven, always in the waters of the bay of Baiona.

The regatta committee will prepare for the participants several routes delimited with buoys on a field in the shape of a trapezoid, which can be seen from the Monte Boi peninsula and the beaches and mountains closest to the bay. At the end of the six scheduled tests, the Monte Real facilities will host the awards ceremony for the winners, scheduled for Sunday at half past four in the afternoon.

In the previous edition of the Baitra Trophy, held in 2016, the young sailor from the Club Marítimo de Canido Ricardo Fernández, barely 12 years old, won. The three first places he achieved in the five disputed races elevated him to the top of the podium, both in the general classification and in the Optimist A class.

The 2016 edition was also held, like this one, thanks to the sponsorship of Baitra, a company dedicated to the marketing and distribution of quality naval accessories and equipment, based in Baiona, which for years has maintained a firm commitment to children’s sailing in Galicia.

The blue flag will wave one more year at the Monte Real Club de Yates

· The good environmental practices of the Baiona yacht club have allowed it to consolidate a distinction that it has maintained since 1988

· The Monte Real Club de Yates is one of the 18 marinas in Galicia recognized by the ADEAC with a blue flag in 2017

· The environmental plan launched by the club includes actions related to water, waste, energy consumption, safety or health

The Association of Environmental and Consumer Education (ADEAC) has granted, once again, the Monte Real Club de Yates marina, the blue flag for the environmental care of its infrastructures, the quality of its waters and the excellence of its services. nautical services.

The Baionese club is one of the 18 marinas in Galicia, 8 of them in the province of Pontevedra, distinguished in 2017 with this prestigious award, which has the backing of UNESCO and the World Tourism Organization, and which recognizes the good management that Monte Real carries out in its facilities. The club thus consolidates a distinction that it has maintained, uninterruptedly except for one year, since 1988.

Its specific environmental program includes actions related to water, waste, energy consumption, safety or health, among other actions. It is a plan that has a very positive impact not only on the facilities of Monte Real, but also on the surrounding sandbanks, which are not affected by the movement of visitors or by the work that is carried out on a daily basis in the club.

Proof of this is that the beaches of A Ribeira and A Barbeira, which surround its facilities, together with those of A Concheira and Os Frades, the other two sandy areas that are part of the Monte Boi or Monterreal peninsula where the club is located , also obtained the blue flag this year.

The Oral Group Galimplant wins the Repsol Trophy

· The sailboat of the Real Club Náutico de Sanxenxo won the fortieth edition of the Monte Real Club de Yates Spring Regatta

The armed crew led by Pedro Pazos ousted Bosch Service Solutions from Canido on the last day, which had been the leader in the cruiser-regatta class

· In the cruiser competition, Jean Claude Sarrade won the Fend la Bise, De la Gándara and Araújo won the jacks, and Alberto Iglesias in Fígaros

Baiona, May 1, 2017.- The Oral Group Galimplant of the Real Club Náutico de Sanxenxo won the Repsol Trophy this afternoon in Baiona, in the fortieth edition of the traditional Spring Regatta of the Monte Real Yacht Club.

With a third place achieved on Saturday and the suspension of Sunday’s regatta, the crew of this Salona 37, led by Pedro Pazos, had a difficult time coming back in the last race on Monday. Against rivals as powerful as the Bosch, the Pairo or the Menudeta, the Oral Group had to use its best weapon, which is its team, a group of family and friends with more than eight years of experience sailing together.

The boat from Sanxenxo completed the little more than fifteen miles of the course designed by the regatta committee in two hours and thirty-three minutes, surpassed only by Pairo 8 which, led by Luis Bugallo, was the fastest and the first to crossing the finish line. The crew of the Oral Group Galimplant received the day’s grand prize from Repsol’s Deputy Director of Marine and Fisheries, Carlos Sánchez Nieto, who was accompanied on the authorities’ box by the Head of Marine and Fisheries of Repsol for the south of Galicia, Inés González Megido.

The president of the Monte Real Yacht Club, José Luis Álvarez, was in charge of handing out the prizes to the winners of the cruise-regatta class. The first also went to the crew of the Oral Group Galimplant, and the silver and bronze went to, respectively, the Bosch Service Solutions, from the Club Marítimo de Canido, skippered by Ramón Ojea; and the Menudeta of the Club Náutico Punta Lagoa, with Víctor Carrión at the controls.

The cruiser class was where the podium was the closest, since the first and second boats were tied on points and the third separated by just one point from the first two. The victory went to the Fend la Bise del Monte Real Club de Yates, led by Jean Claude Sarrade; and the Balea Dous by Luis Pérez, from the Real Club Náutico de Rodeira; and the Santiago Roma Rías Baixas of Iñaki Carbajo, of the Club Náutico Beluso, were in second and third position.

In the J80 class, Javier de la Gándara continues without letting up on his competitors. At the helm of the Okofen, the historic sailor has spent months proving his worth aboard these one-designs, getting the most out of his crew and signing first places one after another. He arrived on the last day of the Repsol Trophy with the certainty that he would step on the top of the podium and finally took the symbolic gold, which was presented to him by the mayor of Baiona, Ángel Rodal.

Some distance behind Okofen, second and third place in the J80 competition were a little closer, being decided by just one point difference. Both wearing pendants from the Monte Real Club de Yates, Enrique Porto’s Ferralemes won silver and Manuel María Cunha’s Marías had to settle for bronze.

Along with De la Gándara, another of the prominent names in the one design section of the Repsol Trophy was Gonzalo Araújo. With the Bosch Service Solutions of the Real Club Náutico de Vigo, the skipper from Vigo sentenced the J70 competition with an almost perfect balance, of six first places in the nine races disputed.

The rest of the podium drawers in the J70 category had an accent from Ourense, with Luis Pérez Canal and Támara Echegoyen as protagonists. The skipper of the Club Marítimo de Canido took second place aboard the Abril Verde, and the Olympic champion signed the third as skipper of the Sogacsa. They all received their prizes from Daniel Benavides, Head of the Pontevedra Sports Service of the Xunta de Galicia, who attended the event organized at Monte Real.

In the Figaro class, Alberto Iglesias and his crew, aboard the Ladeira, caused a surprise on the last day and managed to snatch the victory, by just one point, from Elena Raga’s Serralleiras, who had been leading since the start of the championship. The winners’ podium, to whom the awards were presented by Manuel Villaverde, president of the Galician Sailing Federation, was completed by the women’s team of the Madrilenian Sailing Federation, headed by Amparo Mollá.

The weather, protagonist of the second day of the Repsol Trophy

Bad weather forced the coastal regatta planned for the big boats to be suspended and made the one-designs vibrate in the bay with a lot of wind and waves

· In the J80 class the Okofen and the Bosch Service Solutions in J70 once again stood out among the fleet and further separated themselves from their most direct rivals

· In the Figaros category, Elena Raga’s Serralleiras remains in the lead, followed by Amparo Mollá’s Tutatis and Alberto Iglesias’ Ladeira

Baiona, April 30, 2017.- The weather was the protagonist, this afternoon in Baiona, on the second day of the Repsol Trophy, which is held during this long weekend on May 1 under the organization of the Monte Real Yacht Club.

A rough sea with a lot of waves and winds of up to 40 knots forced the regatta committee to postpone the start of the tests for four hours. Finally, and after an improvement in the situation inside the bay, the monotypes were released.

With a somewhat larger race field than on the opening day, the fleet of J80, J70 and Fígaros competed in two heats of just over three miles, which they tackled quickly and put on a great show.

In J80, Javier de la Gándara’s Okofen increases his chances of achieving the final victory of the trophy after achieving two first places in today’s regattas. Its 8 points in the general classification distance it from the 20 and 22 points of two other Monte Real boats, Manuel María Cunha’s Marías and Enrique Porto’s Ferralemes, second and third respectively.

In J70, once again an outstanding performance by Bosch Service Solutions, skippered by Gonzalo Araújo. The boat from the nautical ship from Vigo maintains the lead it achieved after the first day and increases the distance with respect to its most direct rivals, the Abril Verde de Canido, with Luis Pérez Canal at the controls; and Sogacsa de Vigo, led by Támara Echegoyen. Both are tied on points in the general classification and, pending what happens on the final day, they would close the class podium.

In the Figaros category there were no changes in the first position, in which Elena Raga’s Serralleiras remains; but yes in second and third place. Alberto Iglesias’ Ladeira, who came in second yesterday, fell to third place today, and FEMAVE’s Tutatis, skippered by Amparo Mollá, came second in the winner’s box.

Thus, few changes in the top positions of the one-designs after the two races held this Sunday, and no change in the classification of the big boats that, given the impossibility of safely completing the planned route around the outside of the bay, they stayed on the ground.

Tomorrow, Monday, May Day, the third and final day of the Repsol Trophy will be held, which will end with the awards ceremony for the winners at four in the afternoon at the Monte Real Yacht Club.

· The Repsol Trophy continues tomorrow, Sunday, with the second day of testing, the start of which will be delayed one hour, until two in the afternoon, to try to avoid the bad weather announced by the weather forecasts

Baiona, April 29, 2017.- The Bosch Service Solutions boats shone this Saturday at the opening of the Repsol Trophy, the traditional Spring Regatta of the Monte Real Yacht Club that is held during this long weekend on May 1 with the participation of more than forty sailboats.

The Canido Maritime Club boat leads the provisional classification of the regatta-cruising class after beating its competitors on the coastal layout designed for the opening day. A journey of almost 20 miles, round trip from Bay of Baiona, turning at Torre Faro Tofiño, with winds of between 12 and 14 knots, which the boat skippered by Ramón Ojea completed in three hours and thirteen minutes.

El Menudeta de Punta Lagoa, with Victor Carrión at the controls; and the Oral Group Galimplant from Sanxenxo, led by Pedro Pazos, placed second and third in the regatta-cruiser class, leaving fourth place for Pairo VIII. The winner of the previous edition of the Repsol Trophy, with the young Luis Bugallo at the helm, carried out a fantastic regatta always at the head of the fleet, but was not able to sneak onto the virtual podium.

Variety of clubs at the top of the regatta-cruise class, and variety also in the cruise category, where Jean Claude Sarrade’s Fend la Bise, from the Monte Real Yacht Club; the Balea Dous of Luis Pérez, of the Real Club Náutico de Rodeira; and the Unus of Luis García Trigo, of the Real Club Náutico de Vigo, occupy the first, second and third place respectively.

In the J80 class, the historic yachtsman Javier de la Gándara, habitual winner in these one-design competitions, did his thing again. Aboard the Okofen he signed two first places and two second in the four races held in the bay of Baiona. Not only did they take the lead after the opening day, but they also managed to separate themselves by 9 points from their closest rival, Enrique Porto’s Ferralemes, who came second. In third position was another boat from the Monte Real Club de Yates, the Marías, with Manuel María Cunha at the helm.

The J80 shared the regatta course with the J70 and the Figaros, inside the bay of Baiona, and the same competition design, with a windward-leeward layout that they completed with agility and without incident, driven by a good wind. from the southwest that remained stable in both direction and intensity.

In the J70 class, Gonzalo Araújo’s Bosch Service Solutions stands out above the rest of the fleet, winning all the races held. Four first places in four tests that distance him to seven points from the second and third classified, the Green April, of Luis Pérez Canal; and Támara Echegoyen’s Sogacsa, tied on points.

In the Figaro class, the Serralleiras skippered by Elena Raga is the leader after this first stage. The Ladeira by Alberto Iglesias and the Bouvento by José Francisco García de Miguel occupy the second and third position respectively.

The Repsol Trophy continues tomorrow, Sunday, with the second day of testing, the start of which will be delayed one hour from the initially scheduled time to try to avoid the bad weather announced by the weather forecasts. The starting horn will be heard at two in the afternoon and once the competition is over, participants will be able to taste Martin Miller’s Premium gin and tonics and Coca Cola’s Royal Bliss tonic.

Repsol Trophy kicks off

· The fortieth edition of the traditional spring regatta of the Monte Real Yacht Club casts its moorings this Saturday in the bay of Baiona

· In the absence of the last inscriptions being closed, more than thirty cruising sailboats and one-design J80, J70 and Fígaros have already confirmed their participation.

· Among the participants is the Pairo VIII, winner of the previous edition, which will once again be skippered by the young sailor Luis Bugallo

Baiona, April 28, 2017.- This Saturday, starting at one in the afternoon, a new edition of the Repsol Trophy, the traditional spring regatta of the Monte Real Yacht Club, will begin in the Bay of Baiona. 2017 turns forty years old.

In the absence of the last registrations being closed, more than thirty cruising sailboats and one-designs of the J80, J70 and Fígaros classes have already confirmed their participation. Among the fleet, boats such as the Pairo VIII, of the Real Club Náutico de Vigo, which was the winner in the previous edition, and which this time is once again skippered by the young sailor Luis Bugallo.

Two other of the 2016 winners also repeat in 2017, the Margem do Azul III of the Monte Real Club de Yates, with the Portuguese Frederico Lopes at the controls; and in the J80 class, the Virazón, which for this occasion changes its leader, replacing Willy Caamaño with Miguel Lago at the tiller.

From Vigo, a group of J70s with such renowned names as Laureano Wizner, from Malaga and former America’s Cup sailor, will arrive in Baiona, who will sail with the Enersys 6. Ocean sailor Gonzalo Araujo will do the same aboard Bosch Service Solutions, and at Sogacsa we will see Tamara Echegoyen, who returns to Monte Real after receiving last year at the club the National Sailing Award for the best women’s team together with her Olympic partner Berta Betanzos.

Wide representation from Baiona and Vigo in a Repsol Trophy in which we will also see boats wearing pendants from the Real Club Náutico de Palma, such as the Gran Fisgón, with Manuel López at the helm; Sport Club do Porto, led by Pedro Jorge Silva’s Biao; and from different Galician clubs such as Rodeira, Sada, Beluso or Portonovo, among others.

A lot of variety in the type of boats and origin of the fleet of this new edition of the Monte Real spring regatta, which will hear the first start honks tomorrow, Saturday, starting at one in the afternoon.

For the large sailboats, the regatta committee has designed a coastal route with passages through the beacons of Carallones, La Negra, Bondaña, Torre Faro Tofiño and back again through Bondaña, La Negra and Carallones to the vicinity of Torre Tinaja, in the start of the breakwater of the Baiona wharf, where the finish line will be placed.

The J80, J70 and Fígaros one-design fleet will compete in several windward-leeward races inside the bay of Baiona, in a highly visible area for all those who want to enjoy the competition from the nearby beaches, promenades and mountains.

The weather forecast announces winds from the west-northwest of between 8 and 14 knots of intensity and little sea, so the fleet will be able to sail lightly and complete the routes in good weather.

After the opening day on Saturday morning, the Repsol Trophy will continue with new tests on Sunday and Monday, the May Day holiday, the day on which the award ceremony for the winners will also take place, scheduled for four in the afternoon at the facilities of the Monte Real Yacht Club. In all the days, in addition to the sports program, there will be gin and tonic tastings, by the hand of Martin Miller’s, with its Premium gin, and the Royal Bliss tonic by Coca Cola.

· On this anniversary, the town of Baiona takes on a special role and all the scheduled tests will start and finish in the waters of the bay

· Monte Real hopes that in 2018 the competition can be the J80 Spanish Championship and it has requested this from the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation

Baiona, April 25, 2017.- The noble hall of the Monte Real Yacht Club hosted this morning the presentation at a press conference of the traditional Spring Regatta – Repsol Trophy, one of the longest-running sailing competitions in Galicia, which this year is also celebrating its anniversary.

The regatta celebrates its 40th anniversary and it does so by giving special prominence to the fishing village of Baiona, in whose waters most of the races will be held, and from where all the departures and arrivals of the different races can be seen.

Regatta, cruising, regatta/cruising sailboats, monotypes J80, J70, and Figaros are called to participate in a nautical event that will last for three days, coinciding with the bridge on May 1.

The initial tests of the Repsol Trophy will be held on Saturday the 29th starting at one in the afternoon. The regatta committee will design the layouts for the different categories based on two schemes, of the type windward-leeward poles or coastal routes.

The design of the first stage, with a starting horn at one in the afternoon and different routes for the fleet, will be repeated on Sunday the 30th; and on both days, after finishing the competition in the water, the sailors will be able to participate in gin and tonic tastings, by the hand of Martin Miller’s, with its premium gin, and Coca Cola, with its Royal Bliss tonic.

The fortieth edition of the Spring Regatta – Repsol Trophy will end on May 1 with the last tests starting at half past eleven in the morning, and the award ceremony for the winners at four in the afternoon on the Monte green Royal Yacht Club.

In the previous edition of the trophy, Pairo 8, from the Real Club Náutico de Vigo, skippered by Luis Bugallo, was the winner. Aceites Abril, also from the yacht company from Vigo, took victory in the ORC 1 class; and the Bosch Service Solutions, from the Club Marítimo de Canido, and the Margem do Azul, from the Monte Real Club de Yates, won ORC 2-3 and ORC 4 respectively. In the J80 competition, victory went to Miguel Lago’s Virazón and Eva María Moreno’s Serralleiras won the Figaro class.

Going for the Spanish J80 Championship

Coinciding with the fortieth anniversary of the competition, the Monte Real Club de Yates has asked the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation to organize, in 2018, the Spanish J80 Championship, to be held as part of the 41st Spring Regatta .

It was announced this morning by the president of the club, José Luis Álvarez, who expressed confidence that the tests could be held next year in Baiona, and that Repsol would once again be the main sponsor of the event.

Álvarez thanked the refining company for years of support for Monte Real through sponsorship of the Spring Regatta and the Adapted Sailing School for people with disabilities through Fundación Repsol.

He personally addressed Repsol’s Head of Marine and Fisheries for southern Galicia, Inés González Megido, who was also present at the press conference, sharing a table with the mayor of Baiona, Ángel Rodal; the Head of the Sports Service of the Xunta de Galicia in the province of Pontevedra, Daniel Benavides; the President of the Galician Sailing Federation, Manuel Villaverde; and the vice president of the Monte Real Yacht Club, Alejandro Retolaza.

25 boats compete this Saturday for the Comunica Trophy

Sanxenxo, Portonovo, Beluso, Bouzas, Vigo or Baiona are some of the clubs that will be represented at the Comunica Trophy that is held this Saturday in the Vigo estuary under the organization of the Monte Real Yacht Club and with the collaboration of the Real Club Náutico of Vigo and the Galician Sailing Federation.

In the absence of the registration deadline, which will remain open until one hour before the test begins, there are already 25 boats that make up the list of participants. Crews made up of some 130 sailors who will compete for the trophy aboard cruisers, one-design J80s and Figaros.

Everyone will hear the starting signal at two in the afternoon in front of the transatlantic dock in Vigo. After passing an unmarking buoy, they will start a route that will force them to pass through two other beacons, the Black one, to the north of the Serralleiras Islands; and Carallones, to the south, at the entrance to the bay of Baiona. Depending on the route chosen, it will be between 12 and 14 and a half miles before crossing the finish line.

An attractive route for a day in which the weather forecasts announce good conditions for sailing, especially in the Vigo estuary, with sun, a pleasant temperature and winds from the west-northwest that will blow with an intensity of between 8 and 12 knots. In the Bay of Baiona, just at the end of the route, the situation will get a bit more complicated, with more irregular and weaker winds.

If everything goes according to plan, navigation will be agile and the fleet will reach Baiona comfortably in just a few hours. Once the competition is over, the awards ceremony will be held for the winners. It will be at seven in the afternoon at the Monte Real Club de Yates facilities, with the assistance of representatives of the club’s board of directors and Comunica, the sponsoring company.

>> The registration period will remain open until tomorrow Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

From Vigo to Baiona at full sail with the Comunica Trophy

The Monte Real Club de Yates opens this weekend the 2017 great regattas season with the celebration of the Comunica Trophy, a new edition of its traditional Winter Regatta that this year includes novelties with respect to the previous edition.

The competition, which had been taking place over two days, will be reduced in 2017 to a single day, which will add excitement to the test since the crews will play it all in a single test. It will be next Saturday, April 22, when the participating sailboats must complete a coastal tour of the Vigo estuary and Bay of Baiona, starting near the Real Club Náutico de Vigo and ending near the Monte Real Club de yachts.

In the regatta, for which the free registration period is still open, ORC boats will compete, divided into classes according to their competitive capacity; and monotypes J80 and Figaros. Weather permitting, they will hear the starting signal at two o’clock in the afternoon, and several hours later the winners will be known.

The winners of each class will receive as a trophy a reproduction of a lighthouse specially designed for the occasion, at an award ceremony that will be held around seven in the afternoon at the Monte Real Club de Yates.

It will be attended, among others, by several representatives of the organizing club and Comunica, the sponsoring company, which enters for the first time, hand in hand with Monte Real, in the sponsorship of sailing events. It is a visual communication firm that offers its services throughout Galicia from the municipality of A Guarda, where its headquarters are located.

In addition to the sponsorship of Comunica, the competition has, for yet another year, the collaboration of the Real Club Náutico de Vigo, which provides its facilities for the prior mooring of boats, and the Galician Sailing Federation.

In the previous edition of the Monte Real Winter Regatta, Fifty, owned by the Portuguese Rui Ramada, was the winner. It was imposed in the classification by the minimum, since it finished the tests tied on points with the Bosch Service Solutions of Ramón Ojea (CM Canido) and the Aceites Abril of Luis and Jorge Pérez Canal (RCN Vigo), and it was the tiebreaker system included in the regulations that gave him the victory.
