The regatta HELLO! Ladies Cup opens this Friday the 32nd Prince of Asturias Trophy

· The women’s competition in which some of the best sailors on the peninsula participate will be held starting tomorrow, Friday, in the bay of Baiona

They will share the regatta field with the Solventis J80 class one-designs for which the regatta committee has several batons prepared

· On the first day of competition we will also see on the water the sailboats of the Óptica Studio ORC 1, Aceites Abril ORC 2 and Gadis ORC 3 classes.

· The thirty-second edition of the trophy organized by the Monte Real Club de Yates and the Escuela Naval Militar de Marín will have more than 80 boats in contention

Baiona, August 31, 2017.- This Friday begins in the Rías Baixas the thirty-second edition of the Prince of Asturias Trophy which, under the organization of the Monte Real Yacht Club and the Military Naval School of Marín, will bring together more than 80 boats in contention during the three days that the event lasts .

Among the first crews to hit the water are the sailors from the ¡HOLA! Ladies Cup, an exclusively female competition in which some of the best patron saints of the peninsula will compete for the podium.

Under equal conditions, with 6 identical boats and the same number of people on board, they will fight for victory in a regatta field located inside the bay of Baiona, in which the regatta committee designed several windward courses for them leeward.

Aboard the HELLO! The girls from the Alicante Costa Blanca Yacht Club will sail, skippered by Cristina García. At HOLA MADE IN USA, one of the teams from the Madrilenian Sailing Federation, led by the several-time Ladies Cup champion, Amparo Mollá, will come out to haggle. Also competing from Madrid, aboard HOLA FASHION, will be the team led by Teresa Martínez; and Marta Ramada’s girls have already arrived in Baiona from Portugal, who will try to win aboard the ¡HELLO!.

Through the Club Náutico de Sant Carles de la Rápita, and under the name of HOLA.COM, the crew headed by Magdalena Czernik will sail; and the Monte Real Club de Yates, organizer of the trophy, will also be represented in this competition, with a crew led by Rosalía Martínez and made up of the club’s deputy commodore, Genoveva Pereiro, and a group of students from the Sailing School. They will sail aboard the HELLO FASHION MONTHLY.

The tests of the HELLO! The Ladies Cup will start tomorrow, Friday, at 3:30 in the afternoon inside the Bay of Baiona, where the Solventis J80 class boats will also compete. Among the fleet of these one-designs we will see one of the favorites to win the trophy, Javier de la Gándara’s Okofen, who will in all probability give a lot of trouble to Pablo Martínez’s Marina Coruña. El Cansino by Fernando Yáñez, Luna Nueva by Juan Luis Tuero, Marías Casas do Telhado by José Valentín Cunha, Namasté by Luis de Mira or Virazón with Martín Wizner at the cane will be other jacks that will fight to win the winner cup.

In the Aceites Abril ORC 2 class, Pedro Campos’ SUM Innovation, recent winner of the SAR Infanta Elena regatta, is one of the loudest names to get on the podium. The Bosch Service Solution of Ramón Ojea, the Starfighter of Julio Rodríguez or the Porto Caro II of Carlos Morgado, other of the boats that will compete in the same class, will try to prevent it.

In the Gadis ORC class we will see, among others, the Fend la Bise by Jean Claude Sarrade, the Camping Ría de Arosa by José Manuel Pombar, the Bunda by the Solorzano brothers or the villain by Luis Bodelón.

Inclusive sailing in the Prince of Asturias Trophy by AXA Seguros

Baiona, August 30, 2017.- A boat manned by students from the Adapted Sailing School of the Monte Real Yacht Club will once again participate in the Prince of Asturias Trophy, which is held in the Rías Baixas on September 1, 2 and 3.

This is the third consecutive year that Monte Real promotes an initiative whose main objective is to continue with the inclusion work that the club carries out throughout the year through its Adapted Sailing School for people with disabilities.

On this occasion, the boat will be crewed by students from the Juan María de Nigrán Center for people with intellectual disabilities, will race in the Martin Miller ORC Open class and will be sponsored by AXA Seguros.

“Disability is one of the pillars of AXA’s diversity policy, which is why being part of a trophy of this level with a 100% inclusive boat is a source of pride and satisfaction for us,” says Josep Alfonso, director of the AXA Foundation.

The adapted boat AXA Seguros will compete in the second and third days of the Prince of Asturias Trophy, on Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 September. Baiona prepares for the Prince of Asturias Trophy, the great sailing event in Galicia

Baiona, August 29, 2017.- The fishing village of Baiona is preparing for yet another year to host the Prince of Asturias Trophy next weekend. The great event with sailing in Galicia, which the Monte Real Yacht Club and the Military Naval School have organized continuously since 1986, celebrates its thirty-second edition this year with a program full of events, both sporting and recreational.

The competition, which was presented this morning at a press conference, will begin on Friday, September 1 at three in the afternoon with the first sports tests for the largest boats and one-designs. The Óptica Studio ORC 1, Aceites Abril ORC 2 and Gadis ORC 3 classes must complete a coastal route, while the one designs of the Solventis J80 class and the Figaros of the ¡HOLA! Ladies Cup will fight for the first victories on windward/leeward tracks.

After that initial day, Saturday September 2 will be when the entire fleet goes out on the water. For the ORCs, Solventis J80s and Figaros, the committee has prepared several poles, which will all start at the same time, twelve noon, although in different regatta fields. While some, the largest, will compete for victory at the Cíes Islands anchorage, the others will do so inside the bay. The Volvo Autesa ORC 4, Martin Miller ORC Open and Storax Classic classes will open the competition with a coastal course starting at half past twelve; and at one you will be able to see the start, from the bay of Baiona, of the ABANCA 6m class, in which this year King Juan Carlos repeats as sailor.

Once the tests in the water on Saturday are finished, the Prince of Asturias Trophy moves to the mainland, to celebrate, at eight o’clock in the afternoon at the Monte Real Yacht Club facilities, the award ceremony for the National Awards for Vela Terras Gauda, some awards that, for 25 years, recognize the best in the nautical world. After the gala, a seafood dinner and a great party with fireworks will be the end of the day.

The regatta flags will be hoisted again on Sunday from noon, both at the Cíes Islands anchorage and in the bay of Baiona, for the third and final stage of the competition, in which the test schedule for the second day.

The awards ceremony will be held that same afternoon, at six, in the village of Monte Real. In addition to the competition prizes, the Conde de Barcelona Trophy will be awarded to the best Portuguese boat, the Mary Woodward special prize to the best Solventis J80 class boat, and the President of the Xunta Trophy is about to be decided, of which the The Prince of Asturias Trophy is the second and penultimate test.

King Juan Carlos repeats in the ABANCA 6m class

King Juan Carlos will be one of the sailors participating in the thirty-second edition of the Prince of Asturias Trophy. It will do so aboard the Bribón Movistar , an international 6m class sailboat, in its modern division, built in Galicia following the design of the naval architects Juan Kouyoumdjian and Javier Cela. The boat, assembled by businessman José Álvarez and launched in Sanxenxo last May, will be the one with which the emeritus monarch will take part in the next 6m class world championship to be held at the end of September in Vancouver (Canada). In Baiona, Don Juan Carlos will sail accompanied by his friend Pedro Campos with the ABANCA 6m class fleet, on Saturday the 2nd starting at one in the afternoon and on Sunday the 3rd starting at noon.

Women’s sailing in the competition HELLO! Ladies Cup

In addition to all the women who will participate in the competition as part of the different crews, the 32nd Prince of Asturias Trophy will once again have a specific women’s sailing section: HELLO! Ladies Cup. Some of the best athletes from Spain and Portugal will compete in this regatta under equal conditions, with teams made up of 6 crew members in 6 identical boats, the Benetau First Fígaro del Monte Real. On the water, two teams from the Madrid Sailing Federation, led by Amparo Mollá and Teresa Martínez; one from Sant Carles de la Rápita, with Conchi de Pedro at the head; another from the Alicante Costa Brava Yacht Club, skippered by Cristina Ventura; and one from Portugal, from the BBDouro – We Do Sailing club, which repeats with Marta Ramada at the helm. A crew made up of students from its Sailing School, headed by Rosalía Martínez, will participate on behalf of the Monte Real Yacht Club.

AXA Seguros, the most inclusive ship

With the aim of continuing the work of inclusion that it carries out throughout the year through its Adapted Sailing School for people with disabilities, the Monte Real Club de Yates will once again take to the water in the Príncipe de Asturias Trophy, for the third consecutive year, a ship with an integrating flag. On board the AXA Seguros boat, and accompanied by specialized trainers and monitors, a crew made up of students from the Juan María de Nigrán Center for people with intellectual disabilities will navigate. It is an initiative that has the support of the Ministry of Social Policy of the Xunta de Galicia.

The Terras Gauda National Sailing Awards

The most outstanding of the nautical world in Spain will meet again one more year in Baiona at the gala of the Terras Gauda National Sailing Awards, which will be held next Saturday, September 2 within the framework of the 32nd Prince of Asturias Trophy. Fernández was part of the challenge mounted by England to win the Jar of the Hundred Guineas, the precious trophy of the most important sailing competition in the world, in which he battled aboard the Land Rover BAR built by Ben Ainslie. The Terras Gauda National Sailing Awards recognize Spanish Impulse as the best regatta team

The Spanish Impulse by Iberostar has been recognized by the jury of the Terras Gauda National Sailing Awards as the best regatta team of the year. Fernándo Echávarri and Tara Pacheco will collect the National Sailing Award for the best Olympic team in Baiona

The Military Naval School of Marín, award for the institution of the year

The Naval Military School will receive the Terras Gauda National Sailing Award for the institution of the year, coinciding with the 300th anniversary of its creation in 1717

The Naval Military School of Marin has been honored this year with the Terras Gauda National Sailing Award for the institution of the year for the work it has carried out, for three centuries, in the scientific, humanistic, military and seafaring training of the officers of the Spain navy.

The jury that awards the awards has also wanted to recognize with this award the fact that the School has become, throughout its history, one of the main generators of scientific knowledge in Spain, in matters as closely related to the nautical world as cartography, meteorology, geodesy, engineering, hydrography, oceanography or astronomy, among others.

Since then, with different names and locations, the institution has been the cradle of Navy officers, and the last three generations of the Spanish Royal Family have passed through its classrooms, its students being Don Juan de Borbón, Don Juan Carlos de Borbón and the current King Felipe VI.

Tickets are priced at 25 euros for members and 30 euros for non-members, and can be reserved from today until August 14, by calling the club at 986 385 000 or writing an email to secretaria@mrcyb.com. Each member may bring a maximum of two guests. Due to the limited capacity, we recommend that you make your ticket reservation as soon as possible.

NOTICE OF RACE – 32nd PRINCE OF ASTURIAS TROPHY

The 32nd Prince of Asturias Trophy will be held in the waters of the bay of Baiona and the Vigo estuary on September 1, 2 and 3, 2017, organized by the Monte Real Yacht Club and the Naval Regatta Commission of the School Naval Militar de Marín by delegation of the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation and with the collaboration of the Galician Sailing Federation. The 32nd Prince of Asturias Trophy is included in the calendar of the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation as the Spanish ORC Cruise Championship in the Galicia area, and is also eligible for the Xunta de Galicia President Trophy.
