At the time of its election, the jury that awards the awards has valued, in a special way, the victory achieved in 2016 by the Maserati in the thirty-fifth edition of the Copa del Rey MAPFRE, in which it won after dealing with some of today’s best boats and skippers such as Rayco Tabares, Alex Rodger, Jaime Rodríguez Toubes and Rui Ramada , among others.

Fernando León and his team managed to win the most prestigious trophy in the Mediterranean just as twenty years had passed since another of the legendary skipper’s great feats, that of winning gold at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games together with José Luis Ballester, with the who competed in the Tornado class.

The Terras Gauda National Sailing Awards also reward the power gathered on board the DK46 Maserati . Under the guidelines of León, skipper and head of the sports area, other Canarians haggle like Jose Ponce, Luis Martínez Doreste, Juan Luis Wood and Kevin Rosales; Álvaro Irala from Alicante, Guillermo Altadill from Barcelona, Nacho Alcina and Jaime Martínez del Cerro from Cadiz, Ramón Lago from Galicia and Matías Picornell from Mallorca.

The Maserati will receive its award on September 2 in Baiona, coinciding with the celebration of the thirty-second edition of the Prince of Asturias Trophy, which will also host the Terras Gauda National Sailing Awards gala, organized by the Monte Real Yacht Club .
