Baiona, October 12, 2017.- The regattas return to Baiona this weekend thanks to the AXA J80 Autumn League, a competition organized by the Monte Real Club de Yates and sponsored by AXA Seguros with which the Baiona club puts the end of its season sailing of 2017.
The trophy, intended exclusively for the J80 monotypes, will be played in a league format over four days, on October 14 and 28 and November 12 and 25. Sailing as a fleet and competing in real time, the participating sailboats will compete in a maximum of three tests per day. They will be windward/leeward courses, with two beats and two sterns, which the jacks must complete in a maximum of 75 minutes, and crossing the finish line within 10 minutes of the entry of the first boat, so as not to be disqualified.
All the regattas will be held inside the bay of Baiona, animating the autumn weekends of the residents and visitors of the Galician fishing village, who will be able to enjoy the sailboat competition from the surrounding promenades, sandbanks and mountains.
Among the participants will be the three boats that managed to get on the podium in the previous edition. We will see Okofen, led and skippered by Javier de la Gándara, who won the victory last year together with Diego Fernández, Hugo Ferreiro and Jaime de la Gándara. Luis de Mira’s Namasté and Francisca Barros’s Miudo, who finished second and third in 2016, will also fight for the title. The fleet will be completed by other J80s from the Monte Real Club de Yates and several more one-designs from Coruña and Vigo.
Once the competition is over with the celebration of the last day on November 25, the Monte Real Club de Yates will host in its facilities the awards ceremony for the winners of the AXA J80 Autumn League, within the framework of a dinner at which will be attended by all the sailors and members of the regatta committee, as well as those responsible for the club and AXA Seguros, the company that sponsors the trophy.
