Baiona, November 25, 2017.- Javier de la Gándara’s Okofen signed this afternoon in Baiona the closing of a spectacular regatta season with victory in the AXA J80 Autumn League, a triumph that adds to those achieved this year in the Winter League, the Conde de Gondomar and the Príncipe de Asturias Trophy, in which it also won the title of best J80 boat of the season.

At 58 years old, the historic sailor from Vigo continues to show that what he had, he retained, and that on the water, aboard a J80, there are very few skippers capable of facing him. In this last edition of the autumn one-design league, the commodore of Monte Real, Nano Yáñez, tried it, who managed to overtake Okofen on the penultimate day, but finally had to settle for a meritorious second place.

Okofen and Cansino were, without a doubt, the two standout yachts in the AXA J80 Autumn League, a competition that finished just one point behind each other, taking gold and silver respectively. Enrique Porto’s Ferralemes, the best boat in the last three races held this afternoon in Baiona, maintained the third position that it had held since the previous stage and won bronze in the league.

Baiona crowns the winners of the AXA J80 Autumn League

After the previous three days, tomorrow the fourth and final stage will be held, with a final program of three windward-leeward routes starting at three in the afternoon.

The crew of the Cansino , skippered by the commodore of the Monte Real Yacht Club, Nano Yáñez, is in the lead after having snatched the leadership from Okofen , who suffered on the last day due to the absence of their leader Javier de la Gándara.

Both sailboats, separated by three points in the general classification, will compete for the top drawers with Enrique Porto’s Ferralemes , who is just two points behind them.

We must not lose sight of Luis de Mira’s Namasté and Manuel María Cunha’s Marías-Casas do Telhado on the water either, who stood out in the last regattas in Baiona and are clear contenders for one of the positions on the winners’ podium. .

They are followed in the classification, although at a greater distance, by the Meltemi , the Luna Nueva , the Pazo de Cea , the Mondo , La Galera and the Cormoran II . The Miudo by Storax and the SND Cormorán close the list, with a race less disputed than the rest of the boats.

The last tests of the AXA J80 Autumn League will begin at three in the afternoon in the bay of Baiona, and if the forecasts are met, the wind will not be an impediment to its celebration, since it will blow quite strongly.

Baiona, October 12, 2017.- The regattas return to Baiona this weekend thanks to the AXA J80 Autumn League, a competition organized by the Monte Real Club de Yates and sponsored by AXA Seguros with which the Baiona club puts the end of its season sailing of 2017.

The trophy, intended exclusively for the J80 monotypes, will be played in a league format over four days, on October 14 and 28 and November 12 and 25. Sailing as a fleet and competing in real time, the participating sailboats will compete in a maximum of three tests per day. They will be windward/leeward courses, with two beats and two sterns, which the jacks must complete in a maximum of 75 minutes, and crossing the finish line within 10 minutes of the entry of the first boat, so as not to be disqualified.

All the regattas will be held inside the bay of Baiona, animating the autumn weekends of the residents and visitors of the Galician fishing village, who will be able to enjoy the sailboat competition from the surrounding promenades, sandbanks and mountains.

Among the participants will be the three boats that managed to get on the podium in the previous edition. We will see Okofen, led and skippered by Javier de la Gándara, who won the victory last year together with Diego Fernández, Hugo Ferreiro and Jaime de la Gándara. Luis de Mira’s Namasté and Francisca Barros’s Miudo, who finished second and third in 2016, will also fight for the title. The fleet will be completed by other J80s from the Monte Real Club de Yates and several more one-designs from Coruña and Vigo.

Once the competition is over with the celebration of the last day on November 25, the Monte Real Club de Yates will host in its facilities the awards ceremony for the winners of the AXA J80 Autumn League, within the framework of a dinner at which will be attended by all the sailors and members of the regatta committee, as well as those responsible for the club and AXA Seguros, the company that sponsors the trophy.
