CHANGES IN THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS

LETTER FROM THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Dear partners:

We have been commissioned to assume the government of our beloved club in a very special year for the half century of life that we have completed, although also marked by sadness for the death of Mr. Rafael Olmedo Limeses.

He, along with his team, friends and fellow board members, Mr. Alfonso Paz Andrade, Mr. Jose Manuel Piñeiro, Mr. Jacobo Fontán, Mr. Carlos Soto and Mr. Rafael Barreras, have managed to place the club at the highest level of the sport of sailing, and turn the institution, almost unique today, into one of the most prestigious sports entities on the Spanish nautical scene. For these reasons we want our first public words to be of thanks to them and in recognition of their work.

Secondly, we want to tell everyone that we assume the responsibility of developing the social and sports management of the club in the coming months with humility, enthusiasm and commitment. We will program a series of events to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the founding of our club, and we will celebrate our classic regattas with a different format, since it is the fortieth anniversary of the Conde de Gondomar Trophy and the thirtieth anniversary of the Príncipe de Asturias Trophy. We now have several months of work ahead of us in which we hope that, with your collaboration and help, these celebrations will be a complete success.

Once this period has passed, and before the end of the year, it is our intention to call elections, so that all of us have the opportunity to elect those who will assume the responsibility of preserving and improving the sporting and social heritage of our club.

Without further ado, welcome a greeting,

Galician Singles and Twos Championship – I Memorial Rafael Olmedo

In addition to naming him an honorary member, the board of directors of the Monte Real Yacht Club has decided to honor the ex-president of the club by naming the Galician Solitaire Championship and two after him, which in 2015 will also be called the I Memorial Rafael Olmedo, instead of President Rafael Olmedo Cup, as up to now.

The competition will be held on June 13 and 14 in the waters of the Bay of Baiona, and the Vigo, Pontevedra and Arousa estuaries. Participants must complete a distance of about 60 miles sailing alone or with a single companion at most, which will add excitement to the test.

The route has several obligatory steps (the Carallones and La Negra beacons, the Cíes Islands, the Picamillo, Fajilda, Esqueiros and Ter marks, the Ons and Onza Islands and the Viños Islet) and the public can follow it from the Costa de la Vela and the O Grove peninsula.

The regatta will give lunch on Saturday the 13th at eleven o’clock in the morning and is scheduled to end at dawn on Sunday, with the arrival of the last boats on land. The duration of the test will depend on the ability of the crews and the weather conditions. On Sunday afternoon, the award ceremony for the winners will be held at the facilities of the Monte Real Club de Yates.

In the last edition of the Galician Singles Championship, the victory was won by the crew formed by the Portuguese Rui Ramada and Pedro Pinto. Aboard the Fifty they managed to complete a distance of 52 miles in just 7 hours.
