The Solventis de Moro and Bermúdez, first to reach the Carrumeiro Chico

Alberto Moro and Manuel “Malalo” Bermúdez de Castro’s Solventis was the first boat to reach the Carrumeiro Chico in the star event of the 46th Count of Gondomar – Zelnova Zeltia Banco Sabadell Grand Prix, which premiered this Friday in Galicia.

The crew of the Monte Real Club de Yates signed a wonderful regatta and after leaving Baiona at eleven o’clock in the morning and sailing for five hours and fifty minutes, practically the entire route astern, pushed by a constant wind from the south, managed to reach the mythical rock of Corcubión ahead of the rest of the fleet.

It was ten minutes to five in the afternoon and the owner of the Solventis, Alberto Moro, made a very satisfactory balance of the crossing, assuring that they were enjoying it like never before. “We have had sun, fog, a lot of fog, showers, very intense showers, the fleet has been quite together and the truth is that the wind has behaved very well, giving us an average of 18 – 20 knots -assured Moro-. We went up very fast and we hope that the wind does not drop too much on the way back”.

Behind the Solventis, barely two minutes apart from each other, they passed through the Carrumeiro Chico on Magical by Julio Rodríguez (RCN Vigo), which tries to revalidate the victory achieved last year at the Conde de Gondomar; the April Oils of the brothers Luis and Jorge Pérez Canal (RCN Vigo), who is looking for his fifth victory in the trophy after those achieved in 2013, 2016, 2017 and 2018; and the Corsair of Jorge Durán (CY Vilagarcía), who has not won the Count since 2015.

With a little more distance, although not too much, they arrived at the Pairo-Marnatura by José Luis Freire (RCN Vigo), with Luis Bugallo at the controls; and the Marías of the Portuguese Manel María (MRCYB), the other two boats that formed the hard core of the fleet, sailing quite close to each other during practically the entire route.

The smallest boat of those participating in the inaugural test of the 46th Conde de Gondomar Trophy – Zelnova Zeltia Banco Sabadell Grand Prix, the First 31.7 Mar de Frades-Ronáutica Marinas , owned by Jorge Carneiro (Ro Yatchs), was the last to turn the Carrumeiro. He did it at six minutes past seven, eight hours after leaving Baiona.

In the absence of the rest of the tests, everything indicates that the inaugural stage of the Conde de Gondomar will be, once again, one of the most exciting. It will end when all the participating boats cross the finish line, something that is expected well into the early hours of the morning.

At this time (20:00), the 7 crews competing for the Carrumeiro Chico challenge are all still in contention with more or less hours of sailing ahead. The team that completes the test first will automatically become the winner in real time; and the marks of the rest of the participants will decide, after the compensation of times, the winner of the regatta in compensated time.

Both will surely be firm contenders to achieve absolute victory in the 46th Conde de Gondomar Trophy – Zelnova Zeltia Banco Sabadell Grand Prix, which will be resolved on Sunday with the final tests of the competition.
Before that, this Saturday, the rest of the boats (ORCs, J80 and Fígaros) registered in the Erizana Regatta (which does not include the Carrumeiro long test) will go out to compete. They will do so on a route that, predictably (depending on the weather), will involve a circumnavigation of the Ons archipelago. The departure time is set for noon and, as with the Carrumeiro test, it can also be followed live through the Monte Real Club de Yates website.

While the Carrumeiro test (approx. 100 miles) has a double scoring coefficient, the coefficient for the return to Ons (approx. 30 miles) will be 1.5 and the two technical tests on Sunday, of the windward-leeward type, will score with a coefficient of 1 each. The final results of the Carrumeiro and the poles will reveal the winner of the Conde de Gondomar Trophy, and those of the Vuelta a Ons and the poles will decide the winner of the Erizana Trophy.
