The J80 Class Winter League is decided this Saturday in Baiona

This Saturday the J80 Class Winter League is decided in Baiona, the one-design competition organized by the Monte Real Club de Yates that has been held since last January in the waters of the Bay of Baiona.

Starting at three in the afternoon, and with a good weather forecast for navigation, the twelve participating sailboats will compete in the last three regattas scheduled in the sports program.

These last three tests will be the ones that finish designing the winners’ podium, which will be climbed, in all probability, by the Okofen crews, led by Javier de la Gándara from Vigo; and the Miudo by Storax, with Rui Ramada, Francisca Barros, Alfonso Leite and Tiago Roquette alternating at the rod in the different stages.

Except for big last-minute surprises, they will take, respectively, the gold and silver of the competition; and it will be for the bronze that there is a greater dispute. Separated by just two points, Enrique Porto’s Ferralemes, skippered on the last day by Vaurien’s Spanish champion, Pablo Cabello; and Miguel Lago’s Virazón, led by Javier Rey for much of the league, will fight to climb to the bottom of the winners’ podium.

All in all, the more than probable application of a new discard, which would allow the boats to annul their worst result, could significantly modify the score and make boats such as Cansino, owned by Fernándo Yáñez, move up; or Mondo, by Bernardo Macedo, currently in the middle of the provisional classification.

A little further down the table are, in this order, the Pazo de Cea by María Campos, the Luna Nueva by Juan Luis Tuero, the Namasté by Luis de Mira, the Alumisel by Willy Caamaño, the Marías by Manuel María Cunha and the Náutico Cormorant by Francisco Javier Martínez.

The last tests of the J80 Class Winter League will be held tomorrow, Saturday, starting at three in the afternoon. The competition program provides for three regattas with a windward-leeward route lasting approximately 35 minutes each. Once finished, in the evening, the Monte Real Yacht Club will host a fellowship dinner for all the participants, in which the prizes will be awarded to the winners.
