The Count of Gondomar on stage from July 25 to 28

The Conde de Gondomar Trophy is the next big sporting event for the Monte Real Club de Yates de Bayona, a regatta that reaches its XXXVIII edition in top form. Converted from its beginnings into a sporting challenge, it mixes adventure with the scenic routes of the Galician coast, tracing a total of 140 nautical miles, between coastal tests and a windward-leeward course on the last day.

Aimed at Cruisers with ORC Certificate, the Conde de Gondomar Trophy creates this year a new Maxi-Open Class for boats with or without ORC Certificate that participate solely in order to establish an Absolute Open record in the Baiona – Carrumeiro Chico – Baiona Stage. . This provision included in the announcement of the regatta is established from at least one boat registered in it.

The first honk will be given next Thursday, July 25 at 11 in the morning, with the fleet tackling its first great challenge, the ascent to the Finisterre cove to double the mythical Carrumeiro Chico Lighthouse, located at the entrance to the Ria de Corcubión, bypassing the Lobeiras Islands upon arrival, made up of several islets separated by a kilometer and a half, the best known being Lobeira Chica and Grande.

The turn in Carrumeiro will also have to be taken with great caution, due to the wide diameter of its base, beginning from there the way back to Baiona and in which the sailboats will have covered a distance of 90 miles.

The second race will be held on Saturday the 27th, departing at 12 noon for the Onza and Ons Islands, tracing the well-known course of the 9th, that is, sailing between the Costa de la Vela and the Cíes Islands, to take the the entrance to the Ría de Pontevedra along its outer contour, returning along the same route of ascent. The maritime linear distance is 40 miles.

The final day will take place on Sunday, July 28 at 12 noon as well. This day is reserved for a technical task mounted to the wind, that is, the classic windward-leeward, with a route that, depending on the weather conditions, will be adjusted in distance, even though the forecast is 8 miles, arranged in two beats and two sterns, 2 miles each.

The Conde de Gondomar Trophy is one of the great sporting events organized in Galicia by the Monte Real Yacht Club of Bayonne, thanks to the collaboration of Turismo de Galicia, Turismo Rías Baixas, Martín Códax, Swiss Jewelry, El Corte Inglés, Nea, Coca Cola, Nordés and Morfisa.
