The Adapted Sailing School of the Monte Real Club de Yates has just received a new recognition for its work. The Baiona council awarded him a special mention at its VIII Sports Gala, held this weekend in the fishing village.

The School, launched more than a decade ago, has as its main objective to offer people with functional diversity the possibility of practicing sailing on equal terms.

But although at first it was created solely for people with different disabilities (physical, sensory, intellectual or mental), in recent years it has been expanded and, currently, it also offers activities for the elderly, children under guardianship and women victims of gender violence.

Since its creation in 2012, hundreds of students from groups and associations from different parts of Galicia have passed through it to navigate the bay of Baiona in the club’s adapted boats.

The president and vice president of Monte Real, José Luis Álvarez and Alejandro Retolaza, were in charge of receiving, on behalf of the club, the special mention for the Adapted Sailing School – Photo Miriam Rodríguez
