Azores will offer an extensive leisure and tourism program to the sailors of the Baiona Angra Atlantic Race

· Upon arrival in the Portuguese archipelago, the crews will be able to discover the tourist attractions of Ilha Terceira and participate in various recreational activities

· Visits to the main cities, routes through nature, baths in natural pools or tastings of typical products are some of the proposals

· The Baiona Angra Atlantic Race, organized by the Monte Real Club de Yates and the Angra Iate Clube, will depart from the Galician fishing village on July 3

Participants in the Baiona Angra Atlantic Race ocean regatta, organized by the Monte Real Club de Yates and the Angra Iate Clube , will enjoy an extensive leisure and tourism program upon their arrival in Azores. The city of Angra do Heroismo, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, will be the starting point for different tourist visits to the main points of interest on Ilha Terceira , one of the most attractive in the Portuguese archipelago.

The activities organized in the Azores will begin on July 10 , once all the sailors have completed the first stage of the competition, starting in Baiona on July 3. A tourist tour around the island is planned for that day, visiting places such as Monte Brasil, Ribeirinha, Serretinha and Porto Judeo, as well as the Baía da Salga or Porto Martíns, with their natural pools perfect for diving. A stop at Praia da Vitória and the ascent to the Serra do Facho viewpoint will serve to whet your appetite for lunch with typical local products that will be served in a typical restaurant in Sao Sebastião. In the afternoon you will visit the Wine Museum, the Cinco Ribeiras cheese factory and the Biscoitos natural pools, which will be the perfect place to take a dip before returning to Angra do Heroismo .

This city, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1983, will be the protagonist of the agenda scheduled for July 11 . The sailors accompanied by their family and friends will be able to visit the town hall, the Duque da Terceira gardens, and the Alto da Memoria, among other points of interest such as the Angrense Theater, the Misericordia Church or the Bettencourt Palace. The programming will also allow them to enjoy Portuguese gastronomy with an organized meal in a local restaurant. In the afternoon, the appointment is with nature. A journey of about 5 kilometers along the Path of the Black Mysteries will reveal the beauty of Lagoa do Negro, Gruta do Natal or Pico Gaspar.

A visit to the Furnas do Enxofre and the Tentadeiro, in the interior of the island, is scheduled for July 12 . The sailors will be able to attend a country party with food and, at the end, visit the Gruta do Natal and the Algar do Carvão. The final point to the tourist program will be a tourada á corda, one of the most important popular manifestations of Terceira Island, whose tradition dates back to the 16th century.

On July 13 , the last day before resuming the competition, will be the day on which the awards ceremony will be held for the winners of the first stage, at the Angra Iate Clube facilities. And a day later, on July 14 , the second and last stage of the regatta will start, which will mean the return to Baiona.

This will bring to an end four days of tourist visits and recreational and leisure activities with which the participants in the Baiona Angra Atlantic Race will be able to share moments and experiences with their crews, family and friends; learn more about the culture and traditions of Terceira Island; and enjoy one of the most beautiful places in the Azores archipelago.

Angra do Heroísmo, April 1, 2016 – The participants in the Baiona Angra Atlantic Race ocean regatta, organized by the Monte Real Yacht Club and the Angra Iate Clube, will enjoy a wide social and tourist program when they return to the Azores. The city of Angra do Heroísmo, classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, will be the starting point for different tourist visits to the main points of interest of Ilha Terceira.

The activities organized in the Azores will start on July 10, the date on which it is expected that all the sailors will finish the first stage of the competition, leaving Baiona on July 3. Nesse program is scheduled for a return to the island, visiting places such as Monte Brasil, the parish of Ribeirinha, Serretinha and Porto Judeu, as well as Baía da Salga and Porto Martins, with their wonderful natural pools. It will be a paragem at Praia da Vitória and ascent to the Miradouro da Serra do Facho, or it will serve to open the appetite for lunch with products from the island, a typical restaurant in S. Sebastião. During the afternoon you will visit the Biscuit Wine Museum and its natural pools, a perfect place for a sea bath, before returning to Angra do Heroísmo, with a brief passage through the Cinco Ribeiras cheese factory.

The sailors and their companions will be able to visit the historic center of the city, the Duque da Terceira garden and the Alto da Memória, among other points of interest such as the Teatro Angrense, the Igreja da Misericórdia or the Palácio dos Capitães Generais. The program will also allow the participants to enjoy, on this second day of local gastronomy products, a restaurant located in the fishery parish of the council of Angra do Heroísmo. During the afternoon, a walk through nature. A trail of about 5 km through the Mistérios Negros, appreciating the beauty of Lagoa Negro and Pico Gaspar.

A visit to the Furnas do Enxofre e ao Tentadeiro, not inside the island, is scheduled for July 12. The participants will be able to attend a country party with food and at the end they will be able to visit Gruta do Natal or Algar do Carvão. To date to the tourist program and intend to attend a rope tour, one of the most important popular manifestations of Ilha Terceira, whose tradition dates back to the 16th century.

On July 13, the last day before the start of the second stage of the regatta, two prizes will be awarded to the winners of the first stage. The following day, July 14, will be given to the start for the second and last stage of the regatta, with the return to Baiona.
