Baiona, February 28, 2016.- An exciting day of sailing this Sunday in the bay of Baiona with a new stage of the J80 Class Winter League organized by the Monte Real Club de Yates. The regatta committee started three tests that were held with a wind of about 10 knots on average, very shifty at the beginning but settled towards the end and rising in intensity to 12 knots.

Miguel Lago’s Virazón once again demonstrated its power in the water, recovering the leadership it reached on the first day but which Miudo snatched from it on the second. In the three regattas held today, those from Lago achieved two first places and one second and, also benefiting from a discard, they distance themselves, with their 9 points, four from the Portuguese boat, skippered by Rui Ramada, who has 13.

The provisional bronze of the championship is maintained, with 18 points, by Willy Caamaño’s Alumisel, who this Sunday had a tough battle with Enrique Porto’s Ferralemes, fourth overall with 19 points.

Juan Luis Tuero’s Luna Nueva, despite being the first to cross the finish line in one of the regattas held today, was unable to overcome the fifth position that it already had from the previous day.

Completing the classification, in this order, are the Pazo de Cea, the Namasté and the Náutico Cormorán, the latter two not having participated in the third stage.

The J80 Class Winter League of the Monte Real Club de Yates will resume in mid-March with two new days of regattas and the awarding of prizes to the winners.

From Quality Coast to Quality Coast with the Baiona Angra Atlantic Race

· The regatta organized by the Monte Real Club de Yates and the Angra Iate Clube will unite two destinations that have the prestigious Quality Coast international distinction

· The fishing village of Baiona and the Azores archipelago have held this certification for years, which rewards the sustainability of tourist destinations

· Participants in the Baiona Angra Atlantic Race will be able to get to know and enjoy leisure activities in the most outstanding places of both destinations

Baiona, February 16, 2016.- The Baiona Angra Atlantic Race ocean regatta, organized by the Monte Real Club de Yates and the Angra Iate Clube, will unite two destinations that have the prestigious Quality Coast international distinction. It is a recognition that distinguishes the environmental quality of destinations throughout Europe for sustainable tourism. Since 2007, the year of its creation, the program managed by the Coastal & Marine Union – EUCC, based in the Netherlands, has already awarded 140 tourist destinations from 23 different countries.

In the case of Baiona, the Galician fishing village has held this distinction, in its “Gold” category, since 2013, when it was selected from more than 1,000 candidates. It was fourth in the list of the 100 best coastal destinations worldwide, and second nationally, behind only Fuerteventura.

When evaluating the different destinations, Quality Coast does so based on five criteria: nature, environment, identity and culture, tourism and business; and hospitality and security. If the candidate sites obtain a result of “excellence” in any of these categories, they are awarded the “Bronze” distinction. If they achieve it in at least two of them, they are distinguished with the “Silver” Quality Coast, and if they have three or four sections with excellent results, they get the “Gold” distinction. There is also a “Platinum” category, which is awarded only to those destinations that obtain an excellent rating in all the criteria analyzed.

It is precisely this “Platinum” distinction that the Azores Islands hold, which in 2015 became the first Quality Coast Platinum destination in the world. The Portuguese archipelago thus achieved something that no other place had achieved since the creation of the program for these awards for sustainable tourism.

Baiona and Azores, two destinations united by the same distinction, will strengthen their ties even more in 2016 thanks to the Baiona Angra Atlantic Race, an ocean regatta that will start on July 3 from the Galician fishing village heading to Angra do Heroismo, a town of about 35,000 inhabitants located on the Terceira Island of the Portuguese archipelago.

The competition, for which the registration period is now open , will allow participating sailors to see first-hand the reasons why both places received this recognition. They will do so thanks to a program of social events and tourist visits organized on the occasion of the regatta.

FROM QUALITY COAST TO QUALITY COAST COMING TO BAIONA ANGRA ATLANTIC RACE

· A regatta organized by the Monte Real Yacht Club and the Angra Iate Clube will unite two destinations that have received the prestigious Quality Coast international distinction

· The coastal city of Baiona and the Açores archipelago have held for some years this certification that rewards two tourist destinations for sustainability

· The participants of the Baiona Angra Atlantic Race will be able to meet and enjoy laser activities in the most outstanding places of both destinations

Baiona, February 16, 2016 – The Baiona Angra Atlantic Race , organized by the Monte Real Yacht Club and the Angra Yacht Club, will unite two destinations that hold the prestigious Quality Coast international distinction. It is a recognition that distinguishes the environmental quality of destinations throughout Europe for sustainable tourism. Since 2007, the year of its creation, the program directed by the Coastal & Marine Union – EUCC, based in the Netherlands, has awarded 140 tourist destinations in 23 different countries.

In the case of Baiona, the Galician coastal city has held this distinction, in its “Ouro” category, since 2013, when it was selected from more than 1,000 candidates. It is in fourth place, in our list of the 100 best coastal destinations worldwide, and in second place nationally, ranking just behind Forteventura.

At the time of evaluating these different destinations, Quality Coast does so based on five criteria: nature, environment, identity and culture, tourism and business, and hospitality and safety. If the candidate places obtain a result of “excellence” in all of these categories, they are attributed to the “Bronze” distinction. If this result is achieved for hair less than two of them, they are distinguished with the Quality Coast “Prata”, and three or four categories are obtained with excellent results, obtaining the “Ouro” distinction. There is also a “Platinum” category, which is attributed only to destinations that obtain a rating of excellent in all the criteria analyzed.

And it is precisely this “Platina” distinction that the islands of the Azores hold, once in 2014/2015 they were not the first Quality Coast Platinum destination in the world. The archipelago of the Açores also achieved something that no other place had achieved before since the creation of the award program for these awards for sustainable tourism.

Baiona and Açores, two destinations united by the same distinction, will continue to do more of their links in 2016 thanks to Baiona Angra Atlantic Race, an ocean regatta that will start on July 3 from the Galician coastal city to Angra do Heroísmo, a city with about 35,000 inhabitants located on the Terceira Island in the Açores archipelago.

The competition, in addition to being open or the registration deadline , will allow the participating sailors to know firsthand the reasons why both places obtain this award. It is thanks to a program of reception, accompaniment and accompaniment in various events and tourist visits organized during the regatta.

Baiona, February 13, 2016.- The weather conditions recorded this morning in the bay of Baiona forced the Monte Real Club de Yates to suspend the two competitions scheduled for this Saturday in the bay.

Hours before, those responsible for the organization decided to also suspend the Vitaldent Class J80 Trophy, which this Saturday was going to celebrate its third day in the bay of Baiona.

Young sailors from all over Galicia will compete from Saturday in Baiona for the Baitra Trophy – 420 Galician Championship

· This weekend the first two days of the regional competition will be held, in which nearly 50 boys between the ages of 14 and 18 will participate

· The championship is organized this year by the Monte Real Yacht Club with the sponsorship of Baitra and the collaboration of the Galician Sailing Federation and Jesús Betanzos Naval Accessories

· The 420 international class is a type of boat used by many sailors as an intermediate phase to make the leap from children’s sailing to the Olympic classes

Young sailors from all over Galicia will compete from Saturday in Baiona for the Galician Championship of the 420 class, organized this year by the Monte Real Club de Yates with the sponsorship of Baitra Accesorios Navales and the collaboration of the Galician Sailing Federation and Jesús Betanzos Naval Accessories.

The competition will take place over three days, on February 13, 14 and 20, in which a maximum of 9 regattas will be held, consisting of various routes between buoys placed in a trapezoid-shaped field in the bay of Baiona.

The first of the starts will take place next Saturday, around half past two in the afternoon, after a preparatory meeting of coaches and committees. If everything goes according to plan and the weather conditions allow it, three regattas of about 40 – 45 minutes each will be held.

Something earlier will be the second day of the trophy, on Sunday the 14th, which will begin at half past eleven in the morning, with an identical program to that of the first day. Three regattas with trapeze courses in which the young sailors of 420 will have to demonstrate their good work on the water.

The Baitra Trophy will be decided a week later, on Saturday the 20th, with the celebration of the last day starting at one in the afternoon and the subsequent awards ceremony, around six in the afternoon, at the Monte Royal Yacht Club.

The main nautical clubs of Galicia will be present in the Galician Championship of the 420 class. Oza, A Coruña, Portosín, Vigo, Rodeira, Aguete… will take their crews to Baiona to try to win the regional title of the category.

About six sailors will participate on behalf of the Monte Real Club de Yates, in charge of the organization this year. They are members of the club’s regatta team, from which they have been organizing specific training sessions for the 420 class for years, and which in 2016 also has several clinics scheduled with outstanding athletes. Monte Real thus maintains its firm commitment to promoting children’s sailing in Galicia, with its own activities and initiatives such as the Galician 420 Championship.

The nearly 50 sailors who will gather this weekend in Baiona are boys and girls between the ages of 14 and 18 who sail in crews of two aboard a 420, a type of sailing boat with a trapeze and spinnaker, which must its name to the measurements of its length.

A boat with a studied design that ensures good glides and high performance with a downwind, something that makes it perfect as an intermediate stage for sailors who want to make the jump from children’s sailing to Olympic classes.

In the 2015 edition of the 420 Galician Championship, the crew of the Real Club de Mar de Aguete, made up of Pablo García from Pontevedra and Andrés Álvarez from Buenos Aires, won. Both sailors, aged 15 and 18, also won the 420 Galicia Cup last year. Silver and bronze went, respectively, to the crews formed by Adrián and Marta Domínguez, from the Liceo Casino de Vilagarcía; and Patricia Suárez and Pilar Amaro, from the Real Club Náutico de Vigo.
