Okofen and Miúdo fight to win the Winter League

Javier de la Gándara’s Okofen continues to lead the standings after winning two of the three races held this Saturday in Baiona

· The Miúdo by Storax led by the Portuguese Francisca Barros won one of the tests and managed to close the gap with respect to the leader

· The coincidence of the regatera day with the afternoon of carnival left curious images in the water at the hands of the female crew of the Pazo de Cea

Javier de la Gándara’s Okofen remains at the top of the J80 Class Winter League of the Monte Real Club de Yates after winning two of the three tests held this Saturday in the bay of Baiona.

The boat skippered by the historic sailor from Vigo only found a rival in Francisca Barros’ Miúdo by Storax, who managed to overcome it in one of the tests. That first place in one of the races, the two seconds he got in the rest of the race, and the discard that was applied after completing twelve tests, allowed the Portuguese to close the gap with the Okofen.

Ten points are what separate, after finishing this fourth day, the first and second classified in the one-design league. Okofen with ten points and Miúdo with twenty, would take, if they manage to maintain results, the gold and silver of the competition. The bronze would be somewhat more close, since dances continue to be produced in that position.

Miguel Lago’s Virazón, skippered by Javier Rey in the last two days, fell to fourth position this Saturday after Enrique Porto’s Ferralemes managed to snatch third place from the provisional podium. Despite everything, the separation between both boats is just three points, so we will have to wait for the next few days to see how the league evolves.

Fernándo Yáñez’s El Cansino, with José de la Gándara at the helm on this fourth day, remains in fifth position; and sixth place continues to be for Bernardo Macedo’s Mondo.

The female crew of the Pazo de Cea, led by María Campos, went up to the seventh drawer this Saturday. A team that also left the curious note of the day, going out to compete with feather headbands on their heads, filling the regatta with a carnival spirit.

The rest of the classification is completed by Namasté by Luis de Mira, Luna Nueva by Juan Luis Tuero, Marías by Manuel María Cunha, Alumisel by Willy Caamaño and Náutico Cormorán by Francisco Javier Martínez.

The J80 Class Winter League rests next weekend and resumes in March with the last two days of testing, on the 11th and 25th.

  1. Okofen – Javier de la Gandara (10 points)
  2. Miudo by Storax – Francisca Barros (20 points)

Baiona’s fishermen will be able to beach their boats at the Monte Real Club de Yates

· The fishermen’s association “La Anunciada” and the Monte Real Yacht Club renewed this Thursday a collaboration agreement for the next 5 years

According to the agreement, the 240 members of the brotherhood will be able to beach their boats at the facilities of the Monte Real Yacht Club

· In addition to being able to access this and other services, the fishermen of Baiona will benefit from the reduced rates that apply to members of Monte Real

The president of the Monte Real Yacht Club, José Luis Álvarez, and the patron saint of the fishermen’s guild “La Anunciada” of Baiona, Susana González, signed this Thursday the renewal of an agreement thanks to which the fishermen of Baiona will be able to carry out the strandings of their boats in the club’s facilities.

According to the agreement, signed for a period of five years, in addition to the boat docking service, with travelift and crane, Monte Real will provide the 240 members of the brotherhood with other services such as carpentry, compressor, frogman, loading battery, cantiño, stays on car and varadero.

It will also do so by applying the reduced rates that the club currently offers its members, considerably more advantageous prices than those that can be found on the market.

For its part, and by way of consideration, the brotherhood of “La Anunciada” will facilitate access to its facilities to those clients of Monte Real who, through organized visits, want to know how the entity works.

With this new agreement, the Monte Real Yacht Club and the fishermen’s association “La Anunciada” renew for five years the ties of friendship and the spirit of collaboration that have united both entities for years.

Okofen continues to rule in the J80 Class Winter League

· The boat skippered by Javier de la Gándara won once again in all the tests held this Saturday in the bay of Baiona

· The Miudo by Storax and the Virazón complete, together with the Okofen, the provisional podium of the competition organized by the Monte Real Club de Yates

Two new boats joined the J80 fleet of the J80 Class Winter League in Baiona on this third day, the Marías and the Náutico Cormorán

A great regatera day this Saturday in Baiona with the celebration of the third stage of the J80 Class Winter League, in which Okofen continues to command forcefully.

The sailboat skippered by Javier de la Gándara consolidated its leadership in the competition organized by the Monte Real Club de Yates after winning the three races held this afternoon, moving it even further away from its rivals.

Neither the shifty wind, which made navigation difficult and forced a change of route, nor the good work of some crews, who managed to overcome it at times, prevented Okofen from winning another day.

Miudo by Storax, skippered on this occasion by Rui Ramada, and Manuel María Cunha’s Marías, who joined the Baiona J80 competition this Saturday, were their most direct competitors. They managed to get ahead in certain sections of the regatta, but De la Gándara’s mastery in the last miles of each race allowed him to leave them behind him to always cross the finish line first.

Three new heats for the classification of the J80 Class Winter League and three new victories for Okofen, which consolidates its leadership, already separated by 18 points from the rest of the boats. Following in the classification are Miudo by Storax and Virazón de Miguel Lago, skippered this Saturday by Javier Rey. They are second and third on the provisional podium, with 21 and 28 points respectively, and would get the silver and bronze of the trophy if they maintain their good results.

Further down in the classification, the same positions with which they arrived from the previous day were Enrique Porto’s Ferralemes, Fernándo Yáñez’s Cansino and Bernardo Macedo’s Mondo, fourth, fifth and sixth respectively.

In the rest of the positions there were changes. Luis de Mira’s Namasté rose from ninth to seventh place, from which Juan Luis Tuero’s Luna Nueva fell. The girls from Pazo de Cea, led by María Campos, remain in eighth, and close the classification is Manuel María Cunha’s Marías, who haggled for the first time today in the Winter League; Willy Caamaño’s Alumisel, which did not go out into the water today; and the Náutico Cormorán of Francisco Javier Martínez, who disputed his first regatta in the J80 trophy this Saturday.

After the celebration of this third stage, the competition organized by the Monte Real Club de Yates has only three days left to finish and see who will win this new edition of the J80 Class Winter League. The next regattas will be held within fifteen days, on Saturday, February 25; and the two final days on Saturday 11 and 25 March.

GENERAL CLASSIFICATION AFTER THE THIRD DAY

  1. Okofen – Javier de la Gandara (8 points)
  2. Miudo by Storax – Rui Ramada (21 points)
  3. Virazón – Miguel Lago (28 points)
  4. Ferralemes – Enrique Porto (33 points)
  5. Tired – Fernándo Yáñez (37 points)
  6. Mondo – Bernardo Macedo (56 points)
  7. Namasté – Luis de Mira (59 points)
  8. Pazo de Cea – Maria Campos (61 points)
  9. New Moon – Juan Luis Tuero (62 points)
  10. Marias – Manuel Maria Cunha (76 points)
