· The initiative, in which the Redondela Care Center for People with Disabilities participates, aims to improve the quality of life of these people through the practice of a recreational sports activity

· The Monte Real Adapted Sailing School is the only nautical school for people with disabilities that operates throughout the year in Galicia

Baiona, May 26, 2015.- The General Secretary of Social Policy of the Xunta de Galicia, Coro Piñeiro, today visited the facilities of the Monte Real Yacht Club to see first-hand the activity of its Adapted Sailing School.

The person in charge of the regional administration shared a few moments with the students who are taking part in one of the courses that her department decided to launch at the facilities of the Baiona club, with the aim of bringing people with disabilities closer to the world of sailing.

During the visit, the boys and girls from the Redondela Center for People with Disabilities were able to teach Piñeiro everything they had learned at Monte Real in recent weeks. A few days in which they approached the marine world, they were introduced to the different navigation techniques and discovered the variety of flora and fauna of the Bay of Baiona.

The MRCYB Adapted Sailing School

The Redondela CAPD course is part of the activities of the Adapted Sailing School of the Monte Real Yacht Club, created a couple of years ago with the aim of bringing the world of sailing closer to people with disabilities, and the only one in Galicia which provides this type of training throughout the year.

After a few years serving associations and groups in Val Miñor, Tomiño and A Guarda, it is currently expanding with the aim of being able to offer these adapted navigation courses to centers throughout the community.

In addition, important works have been carried out in the club in order to adapt the facilities to the needs of people with all kinds of disabilities, both physical and intellectual.

The elimination of a large part of the architectural barriers and the acquisition of boats adapted for people with disabilities allowed Monte Real to become, last year, the only Spanish yacht club to receive a special distinction from the Association for Environmental and Consumer Education (ADEAC) for its social integration work.

During her visit to the club in Baiona, the Xeral Secretary was accompanied by the Xeral Deputy Director for the Promotion of Equality, Carmen Orgeira; the General Deputy Director of Residential Resources and Day Care of the Xunta de Galicia, Mª Carmen Calviño; the mayor of Baiona, Jesús Vázquez; the councilor for accessibility of Baiona, Policarpo Vilar and the vice-commodore of Monte Real, Alejandro Retolaza.

After winning silver in the national youth class and gold in the Galicia Cup, those from Aguete now have hard months of training ahead of them to give their best in the European Championship to be held this summer in the Bulgarian town de Bourghas and in the 2015 ISAF World Championship, which will take place next December in Malaysia.

Quite a distance from those from Aguete, and level on points, two crews from Vigo and Portosín are on the provisional podium, those made up of Marcos Cordeiro and Simón Porcio, and Marcos Fernández and Pedro García.

The competition continues tomorrow, Sunday, with the second and last day of tests, starting at half past eleven in the Bay of Baiona.

According to the forecasts, everything indicates that the conditions will be ideal and will allow another three regattas to be held in which the Galician champions of the 420 Class will be decided.

It is a perfect boat as an intermediate phase for sailors who want to make the leap from children’s sailing to the Olympic classes.

Cascais Naval Club – MRCYB. Correspondence agreement between clubs

The Monte Real Club de Yates and the Clube Naval de Cascais sign a correspondence agreement between clubs. Among other objectives are to promote international tourism and the organization of sports competitions.

The Commodore of the Monte Real Yacht Club of Bayonne, Miguel Lago, and the President of the Cascais Naval Club, Gonçalo Esteves, were in charge of ratifying the correspondence agreement established between both clubs with the aim of strengthening relations.

In addition to a moderate use of the facilities by both groups, the agreement will promote joint actions related to international nautical tourism between Portugal and Spain and the organization of sports competitions. It will also seek to coordinate actions between the sailing schools of both clubs, such as joint training or exchanges.

The Clube Naval de Cascais is one of the most traditional yacht clubs in the neighboring country. Since its birth in 1938, it has assumed a relevant role in the development of nautical sports in Portugal, especially sailing. Its school, from which great figures in Portuguese nautical life have emerged, has been in operation since 1950, offering all kinds of activities for both children and adults.

The club also organized historic sporting events such as the 2007 Sailing World Championship, the Cascais Sailing in 2010, the inaugural event of the 2011 Copa America de Vela, the Dragon Winter Series or the Audi Med Cup. Important competitions such as the 1970 Finn Gold Cup, the Star Class European Championship in 1995, or the Laser Class Championship in 1997 are also written on the honor roll of the Portuguese club.

The Xunta de Galicia and the MRCYB collaborate to bring the world of sailing closer to people with disabilities

· The Consellería de Traballo e Benestar organizes this May an adapted sailing program at the facilities of the historic Baionese club

· 15 students from the Redondela Center for People with Disabilities will be able to start in the world of navigation in the bay of Baiona

· The initiative aims to improve the quality of life and well-being of these people through the practice of a recreational sports activity

Baiona, May 18, 2015.- The Xunta de Galicia and the Monte Real Club de Yates collaborate to bring the world of sailing closer to people with disabilities. Until the end of the month, the Consellería de Traballo e Benestar, through the General Secretariat of Social Policy, organizes an adapted sailing program at the facilities of the historic Baionese club.

The initiative, in which 15 students from the Redondela Center for People with Disabilities will participate, has as its main objective to improve the quality of life and well-being of these people through their participation in a recreational sports activity.

Students will be able to get closer to the marine world, learn navigation techniques and discover the variety of flora and fauna of the Bay of Baiona with the trainers from the Monte Real Adapted Sailing School.

The programme, which will include theoretical and practical sessions, will take place over three weeks, with five days of activity per week, from Monday to Friday. After an initial session in which they become familiar with the basic notions of a sailing boat (types of boats, parts of the boat, knots, safety…), the students will go sailing around the bay, where they will carry out their first practices sailing and reconnaissance activities of the environment.

For years, the Monte Real Yacht Club has had facilities adapted so that people with all kinds of disabilities, both physical and intellectual, can practice sailing under equal conditions. The elimination of a large part of the architectural barriers of its facilities and the acquisition of boats adapted for people with disabilities allowed Monte Real to become, last year, the only Spanish yacht club to receive a special distinction from the Environmental Education Association and the Consumer (ADEAC) for its work of social integration.

The launch of its Adapted Sailing School was one of the great steps taken by the club to bring the world of sailing closer to people with disabilities. Initially, the school served associations and groups in Val Miñor, Tomiño and A Guarda, but is currently expanding with the aim of being able to offer adapted navigation courses to centers throughout Galicia.

A competition to promote sailing from the base

The Baitra Children’s Sailing Trophy is part of the plan to promote sailing from the base that the Monte Real Club de Yates has underway through its Sailing School, in which, throughout the year, initiation classes are taught , Optimist and Cadet for children of all ages. The Baionese club also has several regatta teams, with 30 boys who have already made the leap to competition and participate in regattas regularly.

The Optimist and Cadet classes

In the Baitra Children’s Sailing Trophy, two classes of boats will take to the water: Optimist and Cadet. While the Optimist is the most used boat to start in the world of sailing individually (due to its simplicity, stability and easy handling), the Cadete is the perfect boat to learn to work as a team. This is a class that allows young sailors to become familiar with the three main types of sails (jib, mainsail and spinnaker) somewhat more complex (which has the same types of sail as the big boats), and to do it with a companion, working like a crew.

Baiona, May 3, 2015.- They came ready to revalidate their victory in the Monte Real spring regatta, and they did so. The Fifty crew, led by Rui Ramada, managed to win the Repsol Trophy for the second consecutive year.

Wearing the organizing club’s pendant, the Portuguese won the gold of the competition after winning the two stages held on this bridge on May 1. Last Friday they covered, with a tailwind, the 19 miles that separate Baiona from Sanxenxo in just two and a half hours. This Sunday they used just over three hours to navigate, upwind, the 16 miles between Sanxenxo and Carallones.

Always sailing by your side, both on Friday and Sunday, the Aceites Abril , from the Real Club Náutico de Vigo. Despite making a great regatta, and overtaking him on several occasions, the boat of the brothers Luis and Jorge Pérez Canal, was not able to snatch the victory from Fifty. He finally won the silver of the competition, leaving the bronze to Bosch Service Solutions of the Club Marítimo de Canido, skippered by Ramón Ojea.

Very exciting was also the competition of the J80, which sailed very evenly throughout the course. Guillermo Caamaño’s Mi Moneda , which had already won the first stage, managed to prevail again in the second and emerge as the winner. The second position of the monotypes went to Virazón de Miguel Lago and third to Escuela Náutico Cormorán , with Ignacio Bolíbar at the helm.

In the figaro class, the places of honor went to Alberto Iglesias’ Tutatis , Octavio Villalba’s Ladeira and Amparo Mollá’s Erizana , who came first, second and third respectively.
