The Swan 45 Yess Too, owned by the Portuguese owner and skipper Rui Ramada, was the winner of the Carrumeiro Chico climb, the star stage of the 44th Conde de Gondomar – Banco Sabadell Trophy, which after more than 24 hours of testing, ended this morning in the Rias Baixas. The Portuguese sailboat, which sails through the Monte Real Club de Yates, won the challenge after completing the 95.43-mile round trip between Baiona and Carrumeiro Chico in 17 hours and 36 minutes.

Pursued at all times by Aceites Abril and Pairo 8, who did not want to give up, Yess Too had to make every effort to widen the gap with their two great rivals, who would benefit from the time compensation in the classification final. He came out in the lead, first took the Carallones mark and from there he continued with a constant course, setting the pace to Carrumeiro, which rounded the first one at 7 in the afternoon. It would take another 9 hours to cross the finish line located on the southern island of Cíes, which he did not reach until 4:30 in the morning.

Meanwhile, Aceites Abril de Luis and Jorge Pérez Canal; and José Luis Freire’s Pairo 8, skippered by Luis Bugallo; They continued with their particular fight for victory. Aware that the Yess Too would overtake them in real time but with the possibility of taking the victory in compensated time, the two crews of the Real Club Náutico de Vigo gave everything to win.

In its fight of titans, the Aceites Abril was ahead during much of the regatta and when it seemed that it was going to be the winner, the Pairo gave the surprise and at the height of the Corrubedo lighthouse it decided to go further towards the coast, managing to get ahead , a position he would hold until the end of the test.

A finish that showed why the climb to the Carrumeiro Chico del Conde de Gondomar is one of the toughest regattas on the Spanish nautical scene since, after more than 20 hours of sailing, the sailboats had to deal with the wind again, which returned to fall and stalled the crews when they could almost see the finish line. It took them more than 4 hours to cover just 3 miles.

The Pairo 8 crossed the finish line at 10:15 in the morning, after 23 hours of navigation, and qualified through Galicia for the Spanish Championship of Height. The April Oils did it at 11:08, when a day had already passed since the starting horn was heard at Baiona at 11 am on Thursday.

The rest of the boats, among which the performance of Victor Carrión’s Bon III stood out, which was able to keep the pulse of the three favorites for much of the route; and the Lagos Alcaraván III shipyard classic; They decided to withdraw before the end of the test.

Thus, the record of the Carrumeiro Chico test remains intact for another year, which has been held since 2011 by Cenor & De Dietrich, a Farr 50 of the Real Club de Regatas de Galicia that managed to place its name in the history of the Count of Gondomar completing the regatta in 11 hours 56 minutes and 57 seconds. The crew from Arousa, led by Martín Bermúdez de la Puente, lowered that year by more than 30 minutes the record that the Basque sailboat Zorongo had held since 1992.
