XACOBEA NAUTICAL JOURNEY PROJECT MONTE REAL YACHT CLUB AS DEPARTURE PORT

The implementation of this project was partially financed by the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund of the European Union (FEMP) , with the support of the Consellería do Mar de la Xunta de Galicia and the Grupo de Acción Local do sector Pesqueiro, GALP7 , under the reference GALP7-071.

The implementation of this project made it possible to expand and refurbish the facilities of the Monte Real Yacht Club to accommodate the increase in visitors who arrive sailing on the Xacobea Nautical Crossing. In parallel, an agreement was formalized with the La Anunciada de Baiona Fishermen’s Guild to promote the use of the club’s stranding services by the members of this guild, while the club has its facilities for visits framed in the indicated services.

The general objectives of the project are:

  • Increase the number of visitors to the marina.
  • Contribute to the deseasonalisation of the club’s activity.
  • Offer stable and higher quality employment.
  • Exploit the potential synergies of the activities contained in the project and the rest of the club’s activities.

The initial results of the implementation of the project are:

  • Offer of a new service (moorings for sailors who carry out Xacobea Nautical Crossing)
  • Deseasonalise the economic activity of the club.
  • Improvement of club facilities.
  • Increase in the hiring of personnel.
  • Increased use of stranding services by members of the Baiona La Anunciada Fish Guild.

The actions carried out within the framework of the project are the following:

  • Offer to sailing pilgrims of special discount conditions on moorings.
  • Construction of a new terrace and provision of the same with furniture suitable for its use.
  • Conditioning of toilets.
  • Dissemination of an informative brochure on sustainable tourism that promotes environmental awareness.
  • Implementation of a marketing campaign to publicize the activities that are the object of the project.

The total amount of aid obtained for the start-up of the project by the institutions mentioned above amounts to €58,103.

The creation of this web page was carried out within the framework of the project «TEAM SAILING: YOUR COMPANY AT ALL SAIL », financed by the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund of the European Union (FEMP) , with the support of the Ministry of the Sea Xunta de Galicia and the Local Action Group of the Fisheries Sector, GALP7 , under the reference GALP7-032.

The implementation of this project made it possible to design and market the portfolio of services described in the TEAM SAILING section of this website. The actions carried out within the framework of the project are the following:

  • Construction of an adapted road: which guarantees that the club facility is 100% accessible, connecting the tunnel with the marina, and using a concrete slab to level the pre-existing paving that made it difficult for wheelchairs to roll.
  • Fiber optic installation that improves the speed of the WIFI service by 80%.
  • Acquisition of complete sets of sails for the 6 Figaro Beneteau First boats that allows the optimal use of this club asset.
  • Design and implementation of a new website with transactional capacity and responsive design.
  • Installation of LED spotlights outside the installation, which allows energy savings of around 54%.
  • Drafting and dissemination of an information brochure on sustainable tourism that promotes environmental awareness.
  • Implementation of a marketing campaign to publicize the services object of the project.

The total amount of aid obtained for the start-up of the project by the institutions mentioned above amounts to €35,269.
