After completing a great performance at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, where they narrowly missed out on the Medal Race, Echávarri and Pacheco returned to Spain wanting to continue giving their all, and the podiums kept coming.

With all these achievements behind him, Fernándo Echávarri, 44, from Pontevedra, Olympic champion with Antón Paz in the Tornado class; and the 28-year-old from Gran Canaria, Tara Pacheco, world and European 470 champion, will receive a well-deserved recognition for their most recent career next September.

The Military Naval School of Marín, award for the institution of the year

The Naval Military School will receive the Terras Gauda National Sailing Award for the institution of the year, coinciding with the 300th anniversary of its creation in 1717

· In addition to training Navy officers, the School has been one of the main generators of scientific knowledge in Spain for years

· The Commander-in-Chief of the Naval Military School will be in charge of collecting the award at a gala to be held on September 2 in Baiona

The Naval Military School of Marin has been honored this year with the Terras Gauda National Sailing Award for the institution of the year for the work it has carried out, for three centuries, in the scientific, humanistic, military and seafaring training of the officers of the Spain navy.

The jury that awards the awards has also wanted to recognize with this award the fact that the School has become, throughout its history, one of the main generators of scientific knowledge in Spain, in matters as closely related to the nautical world as cartography, meteorology, geodesy, engineering, hydrography, oceanography or astronomy, among others.

The Naval Military School of Marín will receive the award in the year in which the 300th anniversary of its birth is celebrated, in 1717, when the Intendant General of the Navy Patiño ordered its creation under the name of Royal Company of Marine Guards.

Since then, with different names and locations, the institution has been the cradle of Navy officers, and the last three generations of the Spanish Royal Family have passed through its classrooms, its students being Don Juan de Borbón, Don Juan Carlos de Borbón and the current King Felipe VI.

The Commander-in-Chief of the Military Naval School, José María Núñez Torrente, will be in charge of collecting the Terras Gauda National Sailing Award for the institution of the year at a gala to be held on September 2 in Baiona, coinciding with the celebration of the Prince of Asturias Trophy, organized by the Monte Real Yacht Club.

· The crew of the Real Club Náutico de Vigo, led by the brothers Luis and Jorge Pérez Canal, won a trophy that they had already won in 2013 and 2016

The Siradella of the Club Náutico de Portosín won the PSA Retail Zona Galicia Heights Spanish Championship by winning the Carrumeiro Chico stage

The Unus of Luis García Trigo from Monte Real and the Balea Dous of Luis María Pérez from the Real Club Náutico de Rodeira won in the ORC 2-3 and ORC 4 classes

· In the real-time competition of the J80 and Fígaro monotypes, Javier de la Gándara’s Okofen and Brais Acevedo’s Tutatis took the victory

· The young Pablo Marquina, 10 years old, received an honorable mention for the youngest sailor who participated in the competition held in the Rías Baixas

The Aceites Abril of the brothers Luis and Jorge Pérez Canal managed to revalidate this Tuesday its title of champion of the Count of Gondomar, a trophy that the ship of the Real Club Náutico de Vigo had already won in two previous editions, in 2013 and 2016.

Ourenses were among the favorites to win the championship organized by the Monte Real Yacht Club with the sponsorship of Banco Sabadell, and they did not disappoint on the water. They were the fastest to complete the Carrumeiro Chico stage, the longest in the competition, and managed to cross the finish line always among the first in the rest of the tests held since last Saturday in the Rías Baixas.

Those of the April Oils took the gold of the competition leaving the silver to their teammates, the crew of the Pairo 8, who sailed in this edition led by two very young skippers of just 22 years old, Alberto Basadre and Luis Bugallo. Alternating to the cane in the different stages, both were the ones who put the boat armed by José Luis Freire on the podium of honor.

The bronze in the competition went to another of the boats that stood out the most in the regattas, Alberto Moro’s new Solventis, who sailed wearing a pendant from the Monte Real Club de Yates and with Malalo Bermúdez at the wheel.

The scheme of the definitive general classification, of Aceites Abril – Pairo – Solventis, was the one that also resulted in the Storax ORC 0-1 class, which this afternoon the last two races of the trophy were held at the Cíes Islands anchorage. There were two windward-leeward voyages, about 6 miles apart, that the entire fleet sailed with a northwesterly wind averaging 14 knots with gusts of 18.

Luis García Trigo’s Unus, from Monte Real, was the boat that won the PSA Retail ORC 2-3 class. He did so by improving his results in each of the tests that were held since last Saturday. The second prize in the class went to the Sada Marina in the hands of Cándido Losada’s Inosa; and the third was taken by Fend la Bise, by Jean Claude Sarrade, who ran for the organizing club.

In the Coca Cola ORC 4 class, the podium was made up as follows: the Balea Dous of the Real Club Náutico de Rodeira rose to the top. With Luis María Pérez at the controls, the crew posted the best results in its category, with three first places in the four races held. The following steps of winners were covered by two boats from Monte Real, the Margem do Azul III of Santiago Gómez and Frederico Lopes; and Abal Abogados/Lagar de Pintos/Fanautic de Mariano Dios.

In the forty-second edition of the Conde de Gondomar Trophy there was also a place for monotypes, both J80 and Fígaros. In the J80 Rías Baixas class, Javier de la Gándara’s Okofen started as the favorite and, despite not being able to achieve full victories, was the undisputed winner. Manuel María Cunha’s Marías and Guillermo Caamaño’s Virazón were second and third respectively.

In the Martin Miller Figaro class competition, it was the one in which the classification varied the most throughout the different regattas, producing continuous changes in the first positions. Finally, Tutatis de Brais Acevedo got on the podium; the Erizana by Rosalía Martínez and the Silleiro by Santiago Meygide.

At the awards ceremony for the Count of Gondomar, which was attended by the Deputy General Manager of Banco Sabadell, Pablo Junceda, as the main sponsor, the plaque was also presented to the winner of the Spanish PSA Retail Zona Galicia Heights Championship, which was won by the Siradella of the Nautical Club of Portosín, skippered by Francisco Gude.

Ten-year-old sailor Pablo Marquina received an honorable mention for the youngest participant in the Conde, in which he competed as a crew member on the J80 Virazón.

The next appointment in the regatta calendar of the Monte Real Yacht Club is the Principe de Asturias Trophy, which will be held on September 1, 2 and 3.

LIVE MONITORING – CÍES / ONS CIRCUMNAVIGATION – 42ND COUNT OF GONDOMAR TROPHY

This Monday marks the second stage of the 42nd Conde de Gondomar – Banco Sabadell Trophy, with a circumnavigation test of the Cíes and Ons archipelagos, which must be completed by the entire fleet, both the ORC boats and the one-design J80 and Fígaro.

The regatta can be followed live through the following link:

>> CÍES – ONS CIRCUMNAVIGATION MONITORING / 42ND COUNT OF GONDOMAR TROPHY

Santorum & Martínez, virtual winner of the Carrumeiro Chico stage

· Pending resolution of a protest filed over an incident with the Salseiro, those from the Club Náutico de Boiro are the virtual winners of the longest stage of the 42nd Count of Gondomar – Banco Sabadell Trophy

· The Aceites Abril of the Real Club Náutico de Vigo was the fastest boat to navigate the 95-mile round trip between Baiona and the Carrumeiro Chico, which it completed in fifteen hours and fifteen minutes

· The sailboats that compete in the trophy organized by the Monte Real Yacht Club will return to the water tomorrow, Monday, starting at noon to participate in a circumnavigation test of the Cíes and Ons islands

The Santorum & Martinez Group, from the Club Náutico de Boiro, is the virtual winner of the Carrumeiro Chico stage, the longest and most exciting of the 42nd Conde de Gondomar- Banco Sabadell Trophy, which is being held these days in the Rías Baixas.

The crew, skippered by Javier Durán, will have to wait until the protest filed due to an incident with the Salseiro of the Real Club Náutico de A Coruña is resolved tomorrow, Monday, to find out if they are finally the definitive winners of the race.

The Santorum & Martínez was the most favored boat for the compensation of times and the Aceites Abril, of the Real Club Náutico de Vigo, the fastest to complete the journey of just over 95 round trip miles between Baiona and the Carrumeiro Chico.

After leaving the bay of Baiona at ten past eleven, and after more than nine hours of sailing, the sailboat led by Luis Pérez Canal rounded the Corcubión lighthouse at half past eight and crossed the finish line at twenty-five past two in the morning, achieving a time of fifteen hours and fifteen minutes of navigation.

Barely five minutes later, Pairo 8, also from the Vigo yacht company, skippered by the young Alberto Basadre, who remained practically at the head of the race with the April Oils, finished the test.

Solventis del Monte Real also managed to complete the regatta with less than sixteen hours of navigation, with Malalo Bermúdez de Castro in the lead; Siradella de Portosín, led by Francisco Gude; and the Santorum & Martinez Group, which crossed the finish line at seven minutes past three in the morning, nearly sixteen hours after the start.

Despite the difficulty of the test, one of the toughest of the nautical competitions held in Spain, there were hardly any significant events. In addition to the incident between the Santorum & Martinez and the Salseiro, only two boats withdrew from the test, the Alma do Mar, from the Marina de Sada, which broke its rudder after touching some shallows when the Carrumeiro was about to turn; and the Marara IV, of the Rías Baixas Maritime Club, which ran out of wind and decided to start the engine.

For the rest, the test, in which only boats of the Storax ORC 0-1 and PSA Retail ORC 2-3 classes competed, was developed with winds from the northwest of between 8 and 10 knots, which shifted to the north as the evening.

The sailboats participating in the 42nd Conde de Gondomar – Banco Sabadell Trophy will return to the water tomorrow, Monday, starting at noon to participate in a circumnavigation test of the Cíes and Ons islands. In the afternoon, once the competition at sea is over, the crews will be able to taste Martin Miller and Royal Bliss gin and tonics and a seafood dinner that will be offered at the Monte Real facilities.

>> RELIVE THE STAGE

Virazón, Bouvento and Balea Dous win the first stage of the Conde de Gondomar Trophy

· Guillermo Caamaño’s Virazón and Ricardo Acevedo’s Bouvento completed a great regatta and won the J80 and Fígaro classes

· In the ORC 4 competition, the provisional classification is led by Balea Dous of the Real Club Náutico de Rodeira led by Luis María Pérez

· The largest boats that compete for the route to and from Carrumeiro Chico will begin to arrive in Baiona at dawn

· The 42nd Count of Gondomar – Banco Sabadell Trophy continues next Monday with a circumnavigation test of the Cíes and Ons archipelagos

The forty-second edition of the Conde de Gondomar Trophy, which is being held until next Tuesday in the Rías Baixas under the organization of the Monte Real Club de Yates and sponsored by Banco Sabadell, began with a good wind and great expectation on the water.

The competition began on time at eleven o’clock in the morning with the departure, heading for Carrumeiro Chico, of the boats of the Storax ORC 0-1 and PSA Retail 2-3 classes, which after taking the unmarking, undertook a journey of almost one hundred miles away that will not end until Sunday morning, with the arrival of the last sailboats.

Barely a quarter of an hour after the departure of the big boats, and after readjusting the regatta field due to a role of wind, the honk resounded in the Bay of Baiona for the fleet of the J80 Rías Baixas and Fígaro Martin Miller classes. , which competed in real time. Also for the Coca Cola ORC 4 class, for which the regatta committee established the same course, a route of just over 29 round-trip miles to the Camouco lighthouse, near Ons Island.

The fleet left the bay of Baiona through Carallones quite agile, propelled by a northwesterly wind of between 7 and 8 knots, but just after taking that first mark, a calm one stalled the boats for almost three quarters of an hour. Finally, a breeze came through the Cíes and the crews resumed their sailing rhythm.

In the J80 Rías Baixas class, the Virazón del Monte Real Club de Yates, led by Willy Caamaño, was the first to take advantage of that wind and was able to take advantage of the rest of the sailboats. He easily beat Javier de la Gándara’s Okofen, his biggest rival and the one who started, a priori, as the favourite. The third to cross the finish line was Luis de Mira’s Namasté.

In the Figaro Martin Miller class, the protagonist of the day was Ricardo Acevedo, who, aboard the Bouvento, was able to lead a group of students from the Monte Real Cruise Sailing School to the top of the standings. He also did it in a convincing way, taking a great advantage over the rest of Fígaros and finishing the test very close to the J80. Silleiro de Santiago Meygide and Serralleiras de Ramón Palao are in second and third position in the provisional classification.

In the Coca Cola ORC 4 class, the six hours and twenty minutes that the Balea Dous took to complete the test place it, today, as the favorite to climb to the top of the Conde de Gondomar Trophy podium. The boat from the Real Club Náutico de Rodeira, skippered by Luis María Pérez, is followed in the classification by two boats from Monte Real, the Abal Abogados-Lagar de Pintos-Fanautic, owned by Mariano Dios; and the Margem do Azul III by Santiago Gómez.

The first day of the 42nd Count of Gondomar – Banco Sabadell Trophy ended on land with a tasting of Martin Miller and Royal Bliss gin and tonics. The competition will continue next Monday with a circumnavigation event around the Cíes and Ons archipelagos.

The Carrumeiro Chico challenge opens the 42nd Count of Gondomar – Banco Sabadell Trophy

· The most exciting test of the competition and one of the most attractive of sailing in Spain is held tomorrow Saturday in the Rías Baixas

· The sailboats that participate in the challenge must complete the almost 100 round-trip miles that separate Baiona and the Carrumeiro Chico lighthouse

· The fleet will try to beat the record of the test held since 2011 by Cenor & De Dietrich, which completed it in 11 hours 56 minutes and 57 seconds

· The regatta can be followed live on the Internet thanks to a mobile application that will transmit the real position of the boats at all times

The calendar marked July 2011 when the Cenor & De Dietrich, a Farr 50 from the Real Club de Regatas Galicia, managed to place its name in the history of the Conde de Gondomar Trophy by smashing the record that the Basque sailboat Zorongo had held since 1992. The crew from Arousa, led by Martín Bermúdez de la Puente, completed the ascent and descent to the Carrumeiro Chico in just 11 hours, 56 minutes and 57 seconds, reducing the figure achieved by the Basques 19 years earlier by more than 30 minutes.

At that time the distance of the route exceeded one hundred miles, something that will not happen in 2017, for which it is expected that the route will be around 94. Some of the best Galician crews of today will participate in the adventure, in which historic sailors mix with young promises that have been stepping strong in the current nautical scene.

The Aceites Abril of the brothers Luis and Jorge Pérez Canal will be one of the boats that we will see in the competition, trying to revalidate the title of Champion of Spain of Height of the Galicia Zone that it achieved in the previous edition.

The Real Club Náutico de Vigo will also participate in Pairo 8, with one of the skippers that best combines youth and good work on the water. After participating this summer in the Youth America’s Cup, the young man from Vigo, Luis Bugallo, will once again lead the crew.

Also taking part in this forty-second edition of the Count of Gondomar – Banco Sabadell Trophy will be Javier Durán’s Corsair VI, who, wearing a Boiro pendant, will try to repeat the results achieved in 2015, when he scored a double by winning the trophy and the Spanish Height Championship.

From the north they will go down to Baiona to compete in the Carrumeiro test, a regular in the great regattas in Galicia, such as the Salseiro, the Dehler 44 of Manuel Blanco, of the Real Club Náutico de A Coruña; and the Inosa and the Alma do Mar de Sada, skippered by Cándido Losada and Nito Enrique Arias. And from the south will arrive at Monte Real the Portuguese Five, a First 47.7 that will sail for the WeDoSailing-BB Douro club, from Vila Nova de Gaia.

Javier Montenegro’s Marara IV, Luis García Trigo’s Unus, Francisco Gude’s Siradella, Ignacio Sánchez Otaegui’s Txole or Jean Claude Sarrade’s Fend la Bise will be other boats that will try to win this first test of the Conde de Gondomar Trophy, for which very changeable weather conditions are expected.

The sailboats will leave at eleven o’clock in the morning from the Bay of Baiona with very little wind and little defined, from the west northwest, with quite a few clouds and some fog. Little by little the day will open and the wind will turn to the west, the crews will sail through and the wind will increase in intensity, up to 16-18 knots. A new role will leave the north wind boarded, to stay that way throughout the return from Corcubión to Baiona.

The forecast of the regatta committee, which will be chaired for yet another year by Fernando Giraldo, is that the first boats will begin to tack the Carrumeiro Chico at seven in the afternoon and that the first arrivals will take place after one in the morning.

The regatta can be followed live thanks to the eStela mobile application, through which each boat will transmit its position in real time. In addition to giving security to this complicated test, this system will allow the public to follow the development of the test through the Internet at all times.

>> LIVE FOLLOW-UP OF THE BAIONA – CARRUMEIRO CHICO – BAIONA REGATTA

The Conde de Gondomar Trophy continues to celebrate years in Galicia

· The historic sailing event organized by the Monte Real Yacht Club since 1976 celebrates its forty-second edition this year in the Rías Baixas

· The competition tests are sponsored by Banco Sabadell and will be held between July 22 and 25 between Baiona Bay and the Corcubión estuary

· The classic route to the Carrumeiro Chico lighthouse, nearly 100 nautical miles away, will crown the new Spanish Champion of Height

The Monte Real Club de Yates presented this morning in Baiona a new edition of one of the longest-running regattas on the Spanish nautical scene, the Conde de Gondomar Trophy, which in 2017 celebrates its forty-second edition. Hand in hand with Banco Sabadell as the main sponsor, the historic club from Baiona once again organizes a competition that has been held continuously since 1976.

The 42nd Count of Gondomar – Banco Sabadell Trophy will be held between July 22 and 25 in different points of the Galician estuaries, in a very wide regatta field between Baiona and the Costa da Morte, in which several regattas will start crossing and several windward-leeward tests. There will be four sailing days that will bring together ORC, J80 and Figaro class sailboats on the water, with some of the most outstanding crews of the season. Among them will be the April Oils, winner of the previous edition of the trophy and current champion of Spain of Height of the Galician Zone.

As has become a tradition, the competition will start on Saturday 22nd with one of the most complicated and exciting tests, the climb to Carrumeiro Chico, in the Corcubión estuary, which in addition to scoring for the general classification of the trophy, will reveal the name of the new Champion of Spain of Height of the Galicia Zone. It is a long test, almost 100 miles round trip, reserved exclusively for the largest boats, ORC classes 0, 1, 2 and 3. The departure will be given at eleven in the morning from the bay of Baiona and the arrival of the first boats will not take place until late at night. The competition for the ORC 4 and the J80 and Fígaros monotypes is scheduled to end well before that, which will not go up to the Carrumeiro, but will turn much earlier, at the Camouco lighthouse, opposite the island of Ons.

On the second day of regattas, scheduled for Monday, July 24, the entire participating fleet will share the same route. It will circumnavigate the archipelagos of the Cíes and Ons islands, in one of the routes with the greatest scenic beauty of the Rías Baixas. The starting horn will be heard at twelve, and in the afternoon, once the race is over, the crews will be able to enjoy an evening at the Monte Real Club de Yates, with a tasting of Martin Miller gin and tonics and Coca Cola Royal Bliss and a seafood dinner

On July 25, Galicia Day, it will be a decisive day to finish defining the podiums of the 42nd Count of Gondomar – Banco Sabadell Trophy, since the latest tests, much more technical, usually lead to changes in the previous classifications. Starting at noon, two windward-leeward routes will mark the beginning of the end of a competition that will honor its winners in the afternoon, at a prize-giving ceremony to be held at the Monte Real Club de Yates starting at six o’clock.

This will bring to an end a competition created more than four decades ago with the aim of bringing together heavyweight sailing from the Atlantic in a high-level regatta. An essential appointment with the candle that, according to the vice president of Monte Real, Alejandro Retolaza, “has been consolidated over the years, maintaining the same essence and practically the same design with which it was born” .

This was stated by the vice-president of the Baiona club at the press conference held this morning in Baiona, in which Ramón Correa, director of Banco Empresa de SabadellGallego, also spoke on behalf of the event’s sponsors. “For Banco Sabadell – said Correa- It is very important to be present in the lives of Galicians through collaborations that help to make such important and established initiatives in the sports calendar more visible, such as the Conde de Gondomar Trophy”.

In addition to its sporting importance, the competition has an outstanding tourist role, by promoting the diffusion of the Rías Baixas in the media. This was pointed out by the Deputy Delegate for Tourism, Santos Héctor Rodríguez, when speaking of the involvement of the Pontevedra Provincial Council in the Count of Gondomar. “It is a firm commitment of the Diputación to support singular events like this one -he said- for the disclosure they make of a tourist area as important to us as the Rías Baixas are”.

The official presentation of the competition was also attended by the Managing Director of PSA Retail Vigo, Daniel Martín; the Councilor for Maritime Activities of Baiona, Raúl Costas; the Councilor for Sports of Baiona, María Jesús Martíns; and the President of the Galician Sailing Federation, Manuel Villaverde.

Martínez, Trigo and Salgueiro win the Baitra Social League

· Despite not being able to compete in several tests at the end of the league, Rosalía Martínez and Sandra Trigo from Baiona managed to win the 420 class

· The young Nacho Salgueiro put the finishing touch to a brilliant regatta season by achieving victory for the Liga Social Baitra in the Optimist class

· In Optimist School the winner was little Sergio Golpe, 12 years old, who managed to climb to the top of the podium in his first official competition

Baiona, July 2, 2017.- The baiones Rosalía Martínez and Sandra Trigo won this afternoon the Baitra Social League, a competition organized by the Monte Real Club de Yates with the sponsorship of Baitra Accesorios Navales, which experienced its last day of tests this Sunday.

Martínez and Trigo, 15 and 16 years old, sentenced the league by signing two first places in the last two tests played in the bay. A score that, added to that obtained in other tests held throughout the year, made them the undisputed winners.

After two years competing together in the 420, and with a growing understanding, the very young sailors begin to climb positions on the podiums. After achieving, last May, the bronze in the sub-17 category of the Baitra Children’s Sailing Trophy, they now take the gold of the Social League. Silver and bronze went, respectively, to the crews made up of brothers Yago and Jorge González; and Elena Molares and Emma Arana.

In the Optimist class, the very young Nacho Salgueiro, barely 12 years old, put the finishing touch to a regatta season full of first places, achieving victory in the Social League. He did it without disappointing, crossing the finish line first in the last two races of the competition, held this morning in Baiona.

He received his award from Juan Carlos González, manager of Baitra and sponsor of the Social League, who participated in the awards ceremony together with the councilor of Baiona, Carmen Paredes; and the president and vice-commodore of Monte Real, José Luis Álvarez and Genoveva Pereiro. In second and third position in the Optimist class were Laura Cao and Yago Marquina.

A group of Optimist School students who were competing for the first time in an official test also went out into the water this weekend in the bay. The regatta committee prepared a special field for them in which they disputed five tests. After signing three first places and two third places, Sergio Golpe was the winner, leaving second and third place for Pablo Rodríguez and David Represa. The fleet of the smaller ones was completed by two Omega boats from the Monte Real Yacht Club, in which a group of students from the Sailing School went sailing.

With the final of the Baitra Social League, the Monte Real Sailing School closes its 2016-2017 season, and gives way to the club’s summer program, which includes various activities for both school students and club members, as for any other person who wants to enjoy the sea in the summer months. In addition to the usual light sailing and cruising sailing courses, there are leisure proposals such as getaways to the Cíes Islands from Baiona, with which to spend a whole day sailing; and sunsets on a sailboat, with which to enjoy the sunset aboard one of the club’s boats.
