HAPPY HOLIDAYS !

Dear friends and friends,

In the next few days the current year will end, and for this reason I wish to convey to you on behalf of the Board of Directors and all the Club’s workers, our best wishes for these Christmas days and next year 2023.

It has been a year with an extraordinary sporting activity that those of us who practice the sport of sailing have enjoyed. In addition to our complete regatta calendar, we managed to bring the third most important competition in the world to Galicia for the first time, the SUPER SERIES, an event that once again positioned MRCYB on international circuits. We also organize, at the proposal of the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation, three Spanish championships: one complete and two finals.

The good work and professionalism of the entire MRCYB team also made it possible for us to organize the J80 class World Championship in 2023, one more reason to feel proud and grateful to those who have worked hard to achieve it.

As the Board of Directors, I would also like to express our gratitude to the institutional and private sponsors for their commitment to the MRCYB. And to the media that, with their collaboration, allow our sailing sport to reach society with greater amplitude.

And finally, as always, the most endearing memory for those who have left us and for their families. They will always be part of our memory.

Thank you all very much and Happy Holidays,

Jose Luis Alvarez
President MRCYB

· The sights of the crew that under the leadership of Ameneiro complete Javier Aguado, Javier Lago and Juan Lago are already set on the J80 World Championship to be held next year in Baiona

Juan Carlos Ameneiro’s Alboroto won this Saturday the Gestilar J80 Autumn League that had been taking place since last October in Baiona Bay under the organization of the Monte Real Club de Yates.

He did it, moreover, forcefully, achieving two victories in the two tests held and being, once again, the best of the stage, something he had already achieved in four of the five days that included the one-design group, having only escaped the triumph of the third phase at the hands of Solventis Ribadeo.

The team that under the leadership of Ameneiro completes Javier Aguado, Javier Lago and Juan Lago, was undoubtedly the best in the championship. He ended up with partial scores of 1-1-1-8-4-2-2-1-1 and 21 points in the final standings; and received his award from the delegate of Gestilar in Galicia, Alfonso López; and the president of the Monte Real Club de Yates, José Luis Álvarez.

The award was the perfect finishing touch to a spectacular season. El Alboroto began 2022 with the disappointment that the Winter League escaped them at the hands of Javier de la Gándara’s Okofen, but from second position, he made it very clear that this season he was going to wage war in the water. And so he did.

In April they won the Comunica Trophy, in May the Repsol Trophy, and in July the Conde de Gondomar Trophy. They were the appetizers of one of the key calls of the season for the J80 fleet, the Spanish Championship, in which they had all their sights set. They went all out and did not disappoint, becoming national class champions.

Now, with this new victory in the Gestilar J80 Autumn League, the Rampage closes 2022 with a more than positive annual balance. Its leader, Juan Carlos Ameneiro, was very satisfied for having more than met -he said- expectations. “We have been improving month by month and we have also done so within a fleet that is increasingly competitive. The truth is that it has been a very good year and we are very happy with the results”.

El Alboroto says goodbye to the year with the feeling of homework done, but already announces that, after the well-deserved rest from the impasse of the Christmas holidays, he will return with more enthusiasm if possible to the competitions. In their sights they have the great event of the 2023 J80 World Cup, which the Monte Real Club de Yates will organize in September in Baiona. It is the first world championship of the class to be held in Galicia and the Ameneiro crew hopes to achieve a great result.

“We have a very close team -says Ameneiro- with a very firm structure, which we have maintained and will continue to maintain without variations for the World Cup. The hard core is formed and now what interests us is to continue advancing in some aspect in which we can still give more of ourselves, such as sailing in stronger winds”.

Until then, Ameneiro’s men will continue to face off against the large J80 fleet that has been revealed in this latest edition of the Gestilar J80 Autumn League, one of the most competitive in recent years.

After five days and ten events held, and after first place for Alboroto (21 points), the winners’ podium was completed by Solventis Ribadeo led by Bruno Gago, César Conde, Sebastián Hermida and Manuel Javier Álvarez (33 points); and Bica de Chisco Catalán, Laureano and Jaime Wizner and Jesús González-Llanos (48 points). They hung the silver and bronze and received their trophies from the Sports deputy of the Pontevedra Provincial Council, Gorka Gómez; and the Councilor for Sports of Baiona, Andrea Pérez.

Fourth and fifth position went to Nano Yáñez’s Cansino (52 points) and Nicolás Ángel Álvarez’s Pezoas (77 points), the latter being the boat, together with Guillermo Blanco’s I3D Atlántico, in sixth position, the best Results were obtained from those who are not part of the Baiona J80 fleet, since they sail under the pennants of the Redes Maritime Club and the Real Club Náutico de A Coruña respectively.

Among the teams that failed to sneak into the podium or Top 5 positions, the Marías of the Portuguese Manel Cunha deserves special recognition, for which his late entry into the competition (he joined the league months after it started ), weighed him down to ninth position, despite having quasi-perfect partials of 1-1-1-1-2-2 in the tests he played.

Thus, with the closure of the Gestilar J80 Autumn League, the Monte Real Club de Yates also closes its 2022 sports calendar, in which having brought the TP52 SUPER SERIES to Galicia, and celebrated the Championships of España de J80, cruisers and women’s sailing, were some of the most outstanding events, along with the traditional Conde de Gondomar, Príncipe de Asturias (and National Sailing Awards), Comunica and Repsol Trophy, Galician Championship of A Dos and the non-competitive Rías Baixas Route.

  • The team led by Juan Carlos Ameneiro climbed again this Saturday to the first drawer of the provisional podium with only one stage to go before the end of the circuit
  • A great day also for Manuel María Cunha’s Marías, who scored the two partial victories put at stake in the Bay of Baiona
  • After the dispute of this penultimate stage, the one-design circuit organized by the Monte Real Club de Yates will end on Saturday the 17th with the celebration of the last meeting

A great day of regattas in the waters of Baiona for the J80 fleet that is taking part in the Gestilar Autumn League. The penultimate stage of the circuit organized by Monte Real caused new changes this Saturday in the general classification, which is once again led by Juan Carlos Ameneiro’s Alboroto.

As the reports pointed out, the wind was soft but strong enough for the regatta committee to complete two tests in the bay of Baiona, now adding a total of eight sleeves in the league overall.

The first of the day, which started at around 3:15 in the afternoon, began with the dominance of Alboroto, which reached the first mark of the route with a notable advantage over the rest of the fleet. In the second half of the tour, however, Manuel María Cunha’s Marías squeezed and managed to win ahead of Ameneiro’s men after a tough one-on-one between the two teams. Third place, for its part, went to Joaquim Moreira’s Portuguese 4J’S, which debuted this Saturday in the Autumn League.

Little changed at the head of the fleet during the second test of the day. Marías once again demonstrated his potential and did so by adding a new victory to his locker. With this, the team has accumulated four consecutive victories, although not having competed in the first matches places it in the middle of the table.

Behind, the second position of the round was once again occupied by Alboroto while third place went to Solventis Ribadeo, which on this occasion had Bruno Gago at the controls.

With these results, Ameneiro’s men recover and settle in the overall lead with a six-point lead over second place, Solventis Ribadeo, ahead of the last round of the competition. The third drawer continues to be for Francisco “Chisco” Catalán’s Bica, who added two eighths this Saturday to be eight points behind the silver and tied with Fernando Yáñez’s Cansino, who continues fourth and with all the options of getting on the podium on the final day.

The next stage for the J80 will be in two weeks, on Saturday, December 17. It will be the last one on the circuit and the one in charge of defining an exciting Autumn League in which more than twenty monotypes have gathered.

The Gestilar J80 Autumn League faces the start of the final stretch this Saturday in Baiona

  • The Monte Real one-design circuit celebrates an exciting penultimate stage this Saturday with the top three classified separated by only four points
  • Alberto García’s Solventis Ribadeo faces the appointment as provisional leader after storming the first position in the last match played
  • If the conditions allow it, the race committee will give the starting horn from three in the afternoon for a maximum of three new sleeves.

Maximum emotion in the Gestilar Autumn League. With the dispute of the penultimate test scheduled for this Saturday starting at three in the afternoon, the J80 fleet faces the final stretch of the circuit organized by the Monte Real Club de Yates with everything to decide between the first classified teams.

After the last tests were held last weekend, the general classification turned around for the leading teams. Juan Carlos Ameneiro’s Alboroto, who had led the table since the first day, failed to maintain his position and went on to occupy the second drawer of the provisional podium behind Solventis Ribadeo by Alberto García, who with two brilliant second places scored managed to climb two positions to overtake Ameneiro’s team.

Behind, two and two four points behind Alboroto and Solventis Ribadeo respectively, Francisco “Chisco” Catalán’s Bica will defend third place in the Autumn League this Saturday. The fourth position, for its part, is occupied by Fernando Yáñez’s Cansino, and he also does so with options to fight for one of the podium positions.

With these results and the first four teams separated by only nine points, everything indicates that this Saturday there will be another exciting day of regattas with a fleet ready to fight every round and every result.

As of today, the weather reports forecast a day of sun and light wind from the northeast, so the regatta committee headed by Carlos Villar will try to give the horn for a maximum of three races in the waters of the Vigo estuary.

Thus, if conditions allow it, the fleet made up of about twenty teams will cast off at Monte Real to face the first start starting at three in the afternoon.
